Chirping of the tires or anything like that is fun but not fast The key is to have faster shifts not necessarily harsher shifts. Going sideways means you're not going forward! Lockup timing of the converter and shift points are very important too.

Agreed on all points which is why I refrained from using 'harsher' as it does not apply in my case, but some people might describe it that way. With my car, the 'sideways' feeling is a body-on-suspension feeling opposed to a wheel on pavement sensation.
