MT82 Shifter Slop Fix
Afternoon Folks,
As we all know the stock Getrag MT82 shifter could be better, no argument there right? With this said I wanted to improve on this but didn't want to upset big brother at FOMOCO by installing a Barton, MGW, etc. Enter the Energy Suspension Poly shifter bushing. This is by no means an alternative nor will it perform like a Barton or the like, BUT it will clean up the stock shifters action quite a bit.
Install was EXTREMELY straight forward and easy to do with a 10mm socket and long extensions. Total time from jacking the car up, install, to taking the test drive was maybe 30 minutes. No more zip ties, no noticible increase in NVH.
Driving impressions: I am happy with the results, shifts are more solid and I feel more confident going through the gears. I highly recommend one of these for those that are not quite ready to install a short throw due to warranty concerns and for <$20 shipped it was well worth it in my opinion.

As a side note, when I pulled the old bushing out I was shocked at how soft and flimsy that thing was, no wonder there was so much slop in these stock shifters.
Hope this helps someone, and please let me know if anyone has any questions.

It would be nice if something simple liked this worked. The stock throw isn't bad at all, but it is abit sloppy.

Yeah, link was no good. I will stand behind energy suspension products, though. Got some sway bar end links with poly bushings from them for my truck. Leaps and bounds over stock. Might do the same for the Mustang here soon.

That's because it's no longer available on the energy suspension website, or any other website for that matter that I can find.
Here is what it looks like compared to the stocker... (except mine is black)

I put one of these on my car a long time ago. It didn't really make the shifter feel any different, but I did notice the shifting got more precise. I would recommend it.

I have had this on for several days now and have driven in several different scenarios, I have to say this has to have been the best $20 I have spent on the car to date.
Shifts feel more direct and I now feel more confident aggressively rowing through the gears.
I highly recommend one of these if you can find one, a few guys on another forum ordered them after I posted this same post and they all got letters stating they were on back order and would be shipped directly from the manufacturer.
Hope this helps someone.

Interesting.... I actually haven't had any major problems with the stock shifter. I think I have miss shifted one time at the track that I can recall. I am NOT a big fan of the location of reverse though. I think my biggest struggle is at times getting it into reverse. I would say that is about it though. Yet this looks pretty neat and I might have to check into it.

I have some instructions I found via a YouTube video a couple months ago I need to post. I'm going to try the trick in addition to my Barton bracket
