Of course you could always match a gt500 with one but that wouldn't be fair and the C6Z06 would make it more even and still give the shelby a run in other aspects than just a strait line.

Yup. It's an auto. There were lightly modded 5.0 autos running around the same times that day too.

I like to think of it in terms of cost to modify. Most people with sports cars like to modify their cars a little or a lot. Cost to modify Vettes > Mustangs

Stock C6 vs. Stock 5.0
How did the original question about a STOCK C6 turn to a Z06 all of a sudden??

Well that's a given obvious fact. The shelby is heavy! 700+lbs heavier. I'm sure if the vette weighed the same the shelby would smoke it.

I was just giving an example the mustang's only real standing chance against vettes are our blow big brothers.

I wasn't really talking directly to you, Danny. Just the conversation in general.

I finally found the video, no timeslip though. And I lied I had exhaust (not that it made a difference). Anyway, here it is... auto 5.0 with exhaust on stock tires vs. stock C6 with 18" drag radials.

Man I just disagree.
No offense of course, but Me in my BONE STOCK C5 Z was dead locked with Greg in his 5.0. He is a great driver and I'm not horrible at it, both of us were dead on and dead even that night.
an LS3 car stock to stock will put 2-4 cars on me easily. So the stock 5.0 vs stock LS3 car being a "drivers race" just doesn't make sense to me. Unless there is a pro in the 5.0 and a handicapped grandmother in the Vette.

Maybe the guy just didn't know how to drive, but I recently ran against a C6 in my 13 5.0. I've got 3" catback, steeda 101mm monster intake and a custome BAMA tune on 93 octane, we ran from 60 punch and I took him then several times from 30 punch. first pull from 30 he took me at gear shift since my ESC shut me down. but after I turned that off I had him by half a car for every other pull. Really think just a few bolt ons evened the competition??

I ran a C6 not sure of year and put a car or two on him. How can you distinguish between a ls3 and a pre 08 vettte? Different body moulding? Headlghts?

There are no body differences at all. The only differences would be in the wheels which you wouldn't be able to tell while driving. All body panels are the same for the entire generation run, just like the C5. Only differences are model differences, which even then don't change at all from year to year i.e. ZR1, ZO6, GS, narrowbody.
