If its a new car, pretty damn hard. On an old car not as hard. It goes by the repair cost of the car, if it goes over a percentage of the car value then they will totall it. I had my new truck 3 months before some asshole hit me and did 9k worth of damage. Its a 35k dollar truck so it did not get totalled and it was fixed. There is the exeption of major frame damage then it will get totalled also.
