MGW Shifter Install
I'm thinking about purchasing the MGW shifter for my Boss. Has anyone installed this themselves? If so, how tough was it?
Who around Dallas can I pay to install it and how much? Thanks in advance. |
There is install video on MGW website thats pretty thorough and its like an hour long. as far as getting someone to do it in your area (sachse) there is
Truestreet in Mckinney HPP in Lewisville Honestly if it were me I would save myself some $$$ and just DIY. Its not that hard at all and there are videos you can watch that will take you step by step. Good Luck |
You can do it. Did my Barton without drama. Only hard part was fighting the rubber boot back on.

How's the Barton as far as better shifting etc.?

Installed the MGW shifter in my garage with a pair of ramps. With a lift it would have been a lot easier, if not use four jackstands. Hardest part was getting that rubber boot on. The videos are step by step and idiot proof. Took almost two hours start to finish.

Barton is pretty much a bang-bang affair as the throw is SHORT and rock solid when you get to the end. The nice part about the design is that the gates are still the same width apart. I did mine with the 2-post bracket, and later added the whiteline trans bushing. Some NVH with the Barton/bracket, and quite a bit more with the bushing. Unfortunately its its still on top of an MT-82 ;) Trans is not the most refined unit in the world, but gets the job done. Feels draggy/nibbly when going into second in cold weather until it warms up. Like others, if the temps are low, I typically skip shift 1-3 until it warms up. No dramas this time of year. |
Thank you guys!

Just did mine. I could see how doing it on your back would suck but take your time. It's not bad. Don't waste time or money on the Barton when you can get the mgw for just a tad more.

Ranger, MGW is by far the best shifter available.
if you don't want to mess with the install, call Matt at 21st Century Muscle Cars. Steve |
Thanks, Steve. I'll give him a shout.
