Tire Size to Protect Rim
I'm getting sick of tearing up rims every time I brush a curb. My current wheels are the staggered 20 inch (20x8.5 and 20x10) AMRs and the current tire setup leaves the wheels sticking out further than the tire which leaves them exposed to curbs. The current size of the tires are 255/35r 20 up front and 285/30r 20 in the back. What size tires should I get to have a little bit of a buffer between the rim and the curb incase I brush it a little again (because I know I will)? No matter how careful I am I manage to brush a curb once every three or four months.

that 8.5" wheel hurts your size selection. maybe if you can find a 265/35, but I don't think that's a common size at all.
For the rear, get some 305/30s. |
No tire is going to protect your rims if you keep driving into curbs and shit.
The 265/35 size is easy to get in the Nitto NT55ZR - I have a pair on the front of my car. http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tir...77573&pc=40319 |

And why are you running a stretched tire? It's unsafe. |

Get some curb feelers? LOL

Fronts are sticking out or just the rears? I woulda though a 255 is about perfect for an 8.5" wheel.

Long answer short, his tires shouldn't be stretched based on the measurements unless I am doing it wrong. -Alex |

That 255mm is section width, measured across the largest part of the tires, apex of the unflexed sidewall to the other apex. 8.5" wheels are measure inside of the beads of the wheels. Of you were to measure your front wheels, they would end up being about 9.5-9.75" tall from lip to lip. I have 255s on my 9" wheels and there is barely any tire protecting the lips. |
Tires cost more than my wheels

That's really a very slight stretch... I'm still not even picturing it. I guess you could go really beefy but it might end up looking silly.

I knew I'd hear the "be more careful" it's not like I'm running into them at 30mph. It is literally pulling in and out of corner parking spaces. I'm brushing them. The slightest bit of contact scratches the hell out of them.
