Engine locked up at 4500 miles

Just in case if some of yall didn't know but my engine locked up in the car. Here is a cliff note of the story. I'm sure clint or one of the TS guys will chime in with the full story.

Well guys I don't know where to start. I took my car in on Tuesday cause the shop is doing a e85 tune. I put the new TB on and told them to run a baseline before the e85 stuff. They couldn't get to my car till friday morning cause of tuning issues with another car. They drove my car out of the shop fine and it drove onto the dyno fine. They turned it off to strap it down and when they try to start it up again it turned over twice and clunk. They tried it again and it sounded like the starter spun freely. They put the car on the lift took the starter off and it looked fine, the flywheel looked good. They took out the plugs they looked good. They try to turn the crank by hand and they couldn't. The engine is locked up. They are supposed to tear it apart on Tuesday to see what the hell is going on. My car is a 2012 with only 4500 miles on it. So hopefully its a timing chain or something simple.

blownaltered 12-02-2012 10:37 PM

Damn that sucks. How much power where you making.

BLK2012GT 12-02-2012 10:39 PM

Motor was making 466 rwhp and with a 150 shot 590 rwhp.

Phuck Phace 12-02-2012 10:54 PM

Your car is so slow.

Hope you get it fixed up soon.

03cobrarocks 12-02-2012 10:56 PM

pohnjarker 12-03-2012 12:43 PM

Taxman 12-03-2012 12:51 PM

Let us know what it is when they figure it out.

blownaltered 12-03-2012 01:41 PM

I've been wondering where the limit is on these cars power wise with stock internals. My car is an old 5.0 and they broke usually around 500 rwhp and pretty much any motor after that was that way until the coyote motors. I just wonder because they are so new and now people are making good power will we start to find out there breaking point. Stock internals will only go so far.

There are cars making 700-800 rwhp on stock internals. My car isn't making that power yet so my engine didn't lock up because of power.

Nope

Grandpa 12-05-2012 03:02 PM

That sucks, Jeff. It will all work out in the end. Now you can get a stronger shortblock and make even more power. Focus on the positives. :)

Phuck Phace 12-05-2012 03:04 PM

Sorry to hear man, that sucks.
Hope you get up and running again soon.

DirtyD 12-05-2012 04:20 PM

:(...

46Tbird 12-05-2012 04:46 PM

By the sound of the symptoms, I'm guessing it dropped a valve.

Regardless of what happened, I'm sorry to hear it. I was anxious to see what a full top-end built coyote could do on a stock short block.

TrueStreetMotorSports.com 12-05-2012 04:51 PM

Guess i should chime in, We removed the valve covers's and checked all phasers and limiters, cams, timing chains and tensioners. All are in tact and look to be brand new as they should. We checked oil to see if for some reason oil is burn up, nope all looks good. So from there we took oil filter off and cut it open to check for bearing material, metal, ect. No bearing material but there is some metal in the filter. Does not look good, Not sure what could happen to make a motor lock up with no oil issues, no bearings issues and metal in the pan. Ill try to keep you guys posted as we move forward.......

here are some pics of cams in place, everthing up top looking good. Keep you guys posted as we contunie

At least those cams look sexy sitting there. That's a bright side. :D

BLK2012GT 12-05-2012 05:51 PM

Well there is still a little hope that there might not be anything wrong with the engine but won't know for a few days and not till they tear down to the oil pump gear.

Thanks Clint for chiming in and clearing up everything.

Slow6 12-05-2012 06:39 PM

Sorry to hear this happened.

There still that chance.:favorites13:

Cabikejumper 12-06-2012 03:31 AM

When my crank gear fucked up, it locked the motor up. No oil issues or anything other than that. Unsure if the 2011+ has them or not.

Garceeya 12-07-2012 01:16 PM

Stories like this make me not want to mod my car. Hope it is not to bad.
