It's that time again! My annual job hunting thread!
Well this is becoming quite a thing for me, every year it seems right around this time I get to thinkin' hard about my job and I realize just how much I work for so little money... I've had a long string of jobs since I moved to the US and it seems that in every job I land I end up working far too hard for far too little money (if I get paid at all!) and I'm always trying to find a way to get ahead..
So here we go again, does anyone know of a solid business hiring? Or is the company you work for hiring? I'm open to looking at just about any opportunity where I will get paid relative to how long and hard I work. I'm currently selling cars and managing the dealerships eBay account and it's frustrating to me how much work (and time! 60 hours a week!) I have to put forth to get average pay every Friday. I have prior experience in a lot of stuff from being a service advisor to a store manager, I've done graphics, I've done sales, I've run small businesses, I've even detailed cars! If you can help or know someone who may need a new employee that actually WORKS then shoot me a PM and I'll get you my resume. Thanks guys! |
Go roughneck on a rig. 70-100k a yr and work half the year.

My company (Zodiac Seats US LLC (formerly Weber Aircraft)) seems to always be hiring assemblers. Its up in Gainesville and the hours can be kind of ridiculous but if you don't mind the commute and being part of a union I think the pay is decent and you'll have plenty of opportunities for overtime.

Our steel facbrication plant could always use new people. As long as you take pride in your work, and don't try to cut corners, I'm sure they would love you versus some of the people they have now.

I'd really like to find something with consistent hours where I can work all day. I hate sitting around in the dealership wasting time when it's quiet, I know a lot of people love just sitting around and doing nothing here but man, I wanna have stuff to do! |

You'd be doing shift work, but right now most of the guys, I'm told, are working 60-70 hours a week. |

I'm not expecting to just fall into a manager role or a high-paying position, all I want really is a job where I can work hard and get paid for doing so. So please, if you know a company that actually looks after their employees and I will be rewarded for being loyal please let me know lol. |

I'm starting to lean towards something manual labor I think, no stupid customers, no hassle or bullshit, just go to work and WORK and get a decent check each week.. |

Met some guys from Australia at a bar once here in longview. Learned what flange meant pretty quick. Me and my brother still use that every now and then :D |
im feeling the same as you are, i work on computer and sitting behind a desk on a computer for the past 13 years is starting to suck now that im back in the states. afghanland was cool so it wasnt bad.
im looking to get out and do something with my hands...looking for oilfield work now myself. im also driving 80 miles one way to work every day and it sucks...good luck with finding something you like man. |
Could always apply to Pepsi we're always hiring. Lowest jobs are operators and they make $15.50 a hour. Idk what your used to making. They get a lot of overtime too.

I just need out of sales, it's frustrating and discouraging to me to work hard on a deal for a hundred bucks and see another sales person fall into a deal that make $500-600. I guess I don't like the portion of sales that comes from the luck of what your customer has for you to work with. I'd rather just bust my ass every day and get paid for my time and effort instead.. |

Have you thought about the railroad? The 2 big ones in town hire all the time. BNSF and UPRR. I have worked for both, BNSF is a lot better to work for than UPRR but they both pay real good, have great benefits and retirement...

That would take a lot of stress away, not dealing with sales and having inconsistent pay.. |
Still looking... I trawl CareerBuilder, Monster and Craigslist every day and I've applied to a bunch of stuff, no replies yet but still hopeful.
I've decided I'd like a job where I just have to work, I don't wanna do any more sales, I don't want to deal with customer shit, I just want to work hard, get my hands dirty and take home a check every week. Apparently those jobs are hard to find in McKinney and it's surrounding cities... |

Not to discourage you, but typically by the time a job is posted on one of those sites and someone contacts the company to inquire about a position, it has already been filled. Your best bet is to have a connection through a friend, acquaintance, family. Are you on LinkedIn? |

It can be. Sort of like Facebook for professionals. You can connect with friends, colleagues, family, etc. they also have job postings. You build a profile with your work/professional experience and skills. I just recently graduated from TCU and my mother works in the career center there. That's where I learned that traditional job websites aren't very effective. |

Good luck with the search. |
My opinion with jobs is to move where the job is at. I saw a lot of my HS classmates who graduated college with marketable degrees unwilling to move out of the immediate area. Most of them are unhappy with there jobs and pay. Those who were willing to move are a different story. Good luck with the search though...this job market is tough.

Still on the hunt, joined LinkedIn like suggested and starting building some connections... hoping something pops up!
|
Im looking for general service guys at my shop (oil changes, tires, state inspection, parts running, customer pick-up/ drop-off). More for a kid than someone that has a lot to pay for.
|
Just as more background to why I'm looking, this week I'll be working 70 hours. Hours are fine if you're getting paid for them, but 70 hours of sitting in an office waiting on customers and making phone calls fucking sucks...
EDIT: Meeting with a sign company in McKinney tomorrow looking for an installer. Salary, 5-day work week. Could be a good fit...fingers crossed! |
