Opinions and thoughts on painting the roof..
I am pretty much dead set on painting the roof and hood vents. RTR Decklid should be here today (will be color matched). Tossing around the idea of painting the interior pieces as well.
I was sold on gloss black. Then Lava Red caught my attention. Looks black with the exception of certain angles. I don't think I have ever seen Lava Red in person, and some of these pictures are hard to judge. The car is Performance White. What are your thoughts? |
You should consider having the roof wrapped to see if you like it it or not first. If not it's easy enough to pull off to try another color.
|
So your going to get the RTR deck lid and paint it white, then you want to paint the roof and vents black? If your going to paint the roof and vents black I say leave the RTR black if your going to paint that white I say leave the others white
|
You will save yourself time and money if you do a wrap plus not take away from the cars original color.
|
Would try the wrap first, sounds like you got a lot of ideas rolling around. My vote would be to give the Lava red a shot it would be different and think it would look good.

I would try the wrap but I do not think they make it in Lava red. I guess what's in question here is the Lava Red or Black. I am 100% decided on painting the roof.

I have a buddy that wraps cars for a living. If the color exsist they can print it. They will charge a lil bit extra for printing a color they don't typically carry.
|
You have a '13/'14 GT, correct? THe black panel ties the tail lights in nicely with the rest of the car. Ford did a good job on that. Without the black trunk panel, it looks weird.

I don't think it looks bad Painted but I think it would if you paint the roof black and the deck lid white
|
wrap it, Avery and 3M make various reds or it can be printed.
|
If you like the roof to be different go paint. Vinyls can scratch and can't polish. Paint it right, you can always wax and polish the paint to look great IMO. For the vents, you can go paint or hydro dipped. May even be able to hydro dip the trunk panel also. I think it has a better finish than vinyl.

I got so many compliments on my old car with the black painted roof. I say do it!!! Looks good
|
Just get the glass roof it looks beautiful, or don't screw around. . Cut the roof off and replace it with carbon fiber like BMW. Class it up!!! If neither of those things sound good to you.. wrap it.. dear god don't paint a $30,000 plus car on a whim!! If you DO like it then in 5 years you can remove the wrap and have it painted. . Better option then trying to sell a white car with red painted roof......

I am going to speak to a close friend about doing this in the next few days.

I've been calling a place in Weatherford and they have NEVER gotten back to me about a price to wrap my roof. I'm thinking matte/satin black ( PW car) |

Wow didn't know they had that body style back in 1974. Camera phones suck. When will it be done? |

Back in the day a friend of mine used to have a Stang that was multi-colored. We called it "The Puzzle" because it looked like a jigsaw puzzle that had been pieced together. lol
|
Please tell me they didn't just tape over the moldings between the roof and doors. They are removable and should be removed to pain it correctly.
