First trip to the track with the 5.0

Went to the track with no cats, no mufflers, stock tune, and 1/4 tank of fuel. Tires were around 40 psi. About 20 mph headwind I think. I'm car #38, left lane all 3 runs

Overall track prep was ok but not great(by the 9th pass overall, the tires weren't sticking and popping like they normally do). And the track workers had no clue wtf they were doing lol

First pass was against my buddy's ecoboost f150 super crew 2wd. He tried launching at 1500 rpm but with the torque he's making after intake, tune, and exhaust he just spun. My best pass

Second pass

Then I had to wait like an hour and a half just to get a run cause the workers kept letting the motorcycles and slick tire cars go instead of street tire cars. Finally the owner got pissed off and made the street tire cars run, but when I was 3rd in line they stopped cause of a few sprinkles of rain. Then when I was about to go they paused again for a couple more sprinkles. So by then the track prep was crappy and my tires were pretty cold

Normally I'm able to do around 15 passes but not today. Some honorable mentions were a LP570-4 superleggara gallardo running 11s(plate said busakiller, lololol) and a nissan GTR which ended up wrecking after I had left. Also had my salesman talking shit to me about being slow(he races sports bikes there and is building a 89 chevy truck with lsx and turbo)

Saw Brent's car out there but didn't get to talk to him. Sorry about that!

Need a tune for not having cats.

garner 01-12-2014 08:57 PM

Yeah I know. Just can't decide which handheld I wanna go with

Dominic Toretto 01-12-2014 09:39 PM

So your times got slower each time with the same mph it looks like. Manual transmission right?

garner 01-12-2014 09:47 PM

Auto trans. First 2 runs were in drive, last run I put it in sport mode but let it shft itself

Dominic Toretto 01-12-2014 09:49 PM

Ah gotcha. What does sport mode alter?

-Alex

garner 01-12-2014 09:51 PM

I think higher shift points and takes longer to downshift, but not exactly sure

DirtyD 01-12-2014 10:29 PM

So you were out at little river with Brent then? He told us on Facebook about the GTR tagging both guard rails after his brakes locked up.

garner 01-12-2014 10:33 PM

Yeah saw him out there. Never had a chance to say hi though

re-rx7 01-13-2014 12:34 AM

Sucks for the gtr.

NZERO21 01-13-2014 02:31 AM

Awesome numbers on an auto transmission. Typically I would start the shift from 1st gear and move on up as opposed to start from D but I will like to see how both methods could produce different times.

re-rx7 01-13-2014 11:14 AM

It doesnt seem that not having a tune for cats is hurting the car.

Grandpa 01-13-2014 11:20 AM

I agree. Running the car untuned removing the cats is a bad idea.

What other 1/4 mile tracks in TX have you raced on? I ask because I've been to about all of them, and LR consistently has the best starting line of them all. The starter there, Tommy, is regularly hired to work big events at other tracks, or to come in and fix problem tracks.

garner 01-14-2014 07:42 PM

I know that Tommy gets hired for other events and stuff, I'm not a noob to that track. But I know last spring I could go out there and for the first 10-15 overall passes, I could hear my tires sticking to the track then the prep popping when I would roll up to the line

I've also had other nights when my trucks would spin like crazy off the line

kdanner 01-14-2014 07:57 PM

There's only so much you can expect with regular street tires, on any track. What kind of car were you running there before?

garner 01-14-2014 08:06 PM

Very true. Especially when it's pollen season at the track

I've ran a v6 stang, genesis coupe, 2 hemi rams, and now this stang there over the past 3 and a half years or so

One thing you have to consider, your higher power level now, but even moreso, that damned 4.17 first gear. A good 6R80 car with stock converter and gear will 60' in the lower 1.8s.

Not only more power and gear but he was running 40 lbs of air. To the op get some tires, a tune and lower the damn air pressure. If you don't get traction then you can bitch about track prep until then I thing the blame is mainly on you.

garner 01-14-2014 08:47 PM

Blown, all I said is the tires weren't sticking and popping like I'm used to when rolling up to the line. My truck tires were running 45-50 and would still stick and pop. I didn't say omg I was spinning all over the track, actually I felt like my car hooked pretty good compared to the streets

I know to lower pressure but I'm not time slip chasing with this car, there's no point

The truck tires also had much more weight loaded on then when you launched.

Not to mention the truck has less power and gearing.

garner 01-14-2014 10:24 PM

I'm talking about going from the water box to the staging my tires would stick and pop cause of the vht, not launching

garner 01-14-2014 10:27 PM

Anyways, I'm happy with what the car ran lol. Next time out will be after I tune it, then that'll probably be the end till I get my suspension/tires figured out at the far end of the track

kdanner 01-14-2014 10:34 PM

Tire and tune will run 11s. We did it at that shitty San Antonio track, will be easier at the river.

re-rx7 02-02-2014 06:54 PM

From what I've researched running no cats isn't a big deal as the engine only adds fuel on decel to help cool the cats.
