The car that got away.
 

This is a story about the one car I've owned that lives on with me to this day.

I believe everyone has had the car that never leaves their memory. Some may still even have the car and if you do...know that you are lucky. Lets rewind to 2006 and get this story started. I was a 19 yr old kid with a 00 civic si fully built (pistons, ITBs, cams,) and I was on top of the world. I had a beautiful GF, a little apt, and was in college playing basketball, life was good. I watched Initial D and car movies all day, raced my brother on the local pass and just took it easy. Then one day it all ended. I decided that basketball was never gna get me anywhere and left the team. The next few months I worked hard at school and started neglecting other things in my life. On my free time I was attending car meets in Dallas. Almost a 2hr drive rnd trip!

Well, inevitably came the day I lost the first love of my life. She started seeing someone else while I was at meets. After 2 years... I was devastated. I was a kid though and just really didnt know what it took to keep a relationship going. The next few months went by slowly. I didnt really do much, the car I had once loved had become a shell of memories. Couldnt even drive it. :baby:
The day came I decided to sell the Civic. I knew I would miss it but, it just wasnt for me anymore. Everywhere I went was just memories I didnt wanna deal with everyday. With a long sigh, I sold it to my buddy for 10k with 100k miles. Which was a steal then with all the rare parts and mtoor work. Now 10k in my pocket I started the search. After a week or so and with help from Initial D LOL:smoke2: I found my car. A 1989 RX7 Fc3s. I will never forget seeing the car for the 1st time and waiting in front of his Anime shop (irony) for him to bring it. He pulled up and it was all original. Blitz staggered wheels, bolt ons and just fully restored( even had AC). Took it for a test drive and was smitten. Not knowing much about rotaries the whole drive home from Dallas was nerve racking. I just kept waiting for the engine to blow. LOL
I didnt sleep for 2 days just driving and looking at the car. I realized happiness for the first time in a long time. The car was (to Me) responsible for helping overcome the sadness that was in my life. So began the building. Every penny I made went into it. It got a new engine, T67 precison, haltec E6k, FMIC, Big injectors. Fire balls were thrown 3 ft!! lol :fuckyea: Toby and the others picked on me for having a car that sounded like a weedeater but hey it was quick and she was mine!
That summer I accepted a Job at Top Speed Auto as MArketing Dir. I moved to Dallas and quickly learned more from the rotary guys down there and improved the setup. The car in short had taken over my life lol. Cash rolling in and hardly any bills made the car fsster and faster. Well as it were, my dad had a serious illness and I was forced to move back to Oklahoma. I needed a job and found one at a casino 28 miles away. I knew that at 8 miles a gallon the rotary would not be able to make this feasable. I sold it. :badidea: I remember, meeting the guy and walking him through the car and signing the title over. Moments of changing my mind kept going through my head but I knoew what ad to be done. As i watched that car drive away, I had a tear roll down my cheek. Literally. I have never seen that car since and If i knew where it was, I would buy it.

In short im curious, have any of you ever had a car that meant alot to you? One you regret selling? Why? This was my story of the car I still think about to this day. Regret.

To answer your question, no. I don't sell a car until I'm ready to move on therefor no reason to regret it. It's just a car and you will own many throughout your life.

I read the first and last part. I've had cars I really liked but all in all they're just cars. Maybe if one was handed down from generation to generation I'd feel differently.

Just a personal story. Like I said I was young and that car made an impression on me. Was also my first turbo car.

Of all the cars I've had over the many years I've been doing this, I can honestly say the only one I would really like to have back is my old '70 Mach 1. 428CJ, 4 speed and 4.30 gears from the factory, Red over black with a black interior, sport slats, the rear wing and big tires on Cragar SS wheels. It was a beast, and a blast to drive.

68 Camaro SS my father and I restored. Took a year from when I was 15-16, got to turn the key over at 7am on my 16th bday and drove it to school. It barely made it there and back, but over time we got it ironed out.

That is the 1 and only car I "regret" selling.

Lots of emotion tied into that sounds like. I still wanna build something with my dad. Hope we can get the time before time catches up.

Very, very true. The time you have with family and friends is the most important thing you have in your life.

lets not forget all those times a certain mustang beat up on the ole civic.... and a certain red mustang beat up on the ole rx7......

LOL. Are they from Rockfest?

I dont recall a red mustang beating shit. I beat Chris RIP (347 stroker i believe) which everybody cried about. The car was a bone stock s4 engine with no portwork. T67 on 11psi (at the time) 720cc injectors primary and secondary. The civic rn heads up against Aaron in his 02 stang gt with bolt ons. I still have the vid on 8mm to prove that one.

No??? The one time we hooked up going down the hwy under 35 heading home, I was off bottle and do recall pulling 2-3 cars till 80 mph when you "blew an inter cooler hose" and fell back... 2-3 cars at 80 doubt you were gonna catch up... Me and aaron hooked up couple times with my white car, I put 3-4 cars on him. The time you raced him he only had the cai and exhaust.

I miss my big turbo srt4 and my goat...but not enough to cry.

They're cars, the feelings/memories are what's important.

Now I remember. Stock turbo I thought u were talking when I had the single. You had the black car by that time. I was intake, exhaust. We never got a chance after that. I did put lengths on chris though.

I never got a chance to hook up with chris. His car ran hard at the track when Jeff had it but was not nearly as fast on the street as people thought. It would run a 12.0 at like 110 mph. My hci red car would run a 12.5 at 108 mph.. I remember the time I hooked up with James in the green Mac javelin with that billy badass 383 self racing built him. I put bus lengths on him on the bottle, it was a slaughtering so we ran me on motor and I still put 7+ cars on him on motor..

Omg I remember that haha. Then he talked shit about your car. He never accepted that loss I don't think. Btw who drives an old slightly restored thuñderbird in Ardmore?

Probably my buddy Vincent. Last time I talked with him it was green with chrome cobra wheels.

I miss my 90 Saleen. It was fucken perfect (26K miles in 1998). I did shitty in school so my dad sold it. Had no control over selling it after I fucked up. Oh well at least I still have the 86 (what's left of it that is).

Rockfest was 97. I was there

My first truck. A 94 Chevy silverado extended cab step side. It was blue exterior and blue interior. Had custom rims, chrome bed rails, custom stereo, spray in bed liner, running boards and was just kick ass. Some of the most fun I had in my life was in that truck. If I could find it I would by it and restore it to the exact way it was the day I got it. Damn I miss that truck.

I feel ya, that's why my first car (90 GT) is in my possession and I would never let my parents sell/trade it the 10 times they tried to. TOO many memories in that car, will never sell if I can help it.

My '66 Mustang I6 that my dad and I restored. Gah, definitely regret that. With all the money I've spent on my current mustangs, that car could have been kick ass.
