lol slim on the good kills, but plenty of camera pics of what shouldve shown up at that same time as the previous weeks.. lol
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...1299196294.jpg No lie, this one was only around 75lbs and was shot in the head with a 9mm from about 3ft. The round ricochet off, hog turned to back of the trap where thre was a gap between the ground and cage, lifted it up and ran off while two hungover stuned idiots dumped mags trying to get it "one being me". Stalked another 2 hours and never found it. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...1291914938.jpg Never saw this guy agian after that year.. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...1289925320.jpg best kill and greatest prank ever.. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...Dk1MC5qcGc.jpg last year http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...TkzNS5qcGc.jpg |

Nice thread! After going twice for hogs with rifles and coming up empty handed I finally went out with dogs with a couple guys north of DFW in Greenville. Took down 11 hogs in under 5 hours. Great hunt, will go again when it cools back down... The first one of the day was 300+ lbs and the dogs bayed him up in water it got intense. A Pitbull was the catch dog and he was a beast.

It's interesting how smart hogs really are, yet dumb as shit.. I have GC pics of them hitting feeders at the same time every day for a month, until I sit and wait.. Could be the W tx swamp ass but w/e.. Yet every now and then just driving around out there being loud as fuck you will roll right up to them.. |
LOL - thats me with the knife in ohh shit mode.. Of course my first hog has to be 300lbs and in the water... Big adrenaline rush though, the bigger ones would stay and try to fight the dogs while some of the smaller ones would run. It was a cool experience. I've done the same sit in a blind for hours when you have cam footage of them coming in every night, and nothing.... I think they can just smell you if the wind is right. I havent had much luck in blinds in TX.

yea they got some really good smell. it sucks if the wind is blowing! u gotta get them quick! :gunner: |

Here's someof mine from last year. The first pic is a 10 pointer with 20 3/4 inch inside spread and the 8 pointer is just a typical 8 pointer. And heres one that my buddy shot.

I don't mind the feeders still a bait and wait so it makes sense while some may not like it, but you give yourself standards of what you're looking for ie. old 8+ buck and so fourth "not just dropping the first thing to come in". It's the places that are 100-200acres with high fence.. That's what trips me out.. If you do get into archery get ready to be addicted and drop some coin! |
I love me some feral hog hunting. I shot this guy at night eating acorns off of my friends back porch at ~60 yards with my Sig556R w/Pulsar N550 night vision. Popped him and he ran maybe 30 feet.

Didn't know we had a hunting section.
Video of my 15 yr old daughter dropping a pig near Freer, Texas in November 2012. She turned the lights out pretty well on that one! |
LOL they just keep eating! wish my girl would of got mine on vid! she had the gopro rolling but got scared cause she was scared of how loud the gun would be.
|
Anybody getting ready for deer season? I'm going up to Mt Vernon to shoot a pig this weekend. Going on a deer hunt in Freer in early November.
Last year's buck - biggest one I've ever killed: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6...o/IMG_0314.JPG Will post a dead pig pic this weekend if I get lucky 8-] |
Yup going to fill the feeders FINALLY sept 21st. And I'm really looking forward to next year cause I get to hunt up in north west Kansas for a whitetail for free.
|
Where was that deer killed?
|
hah, free hunting is like free beer - that's the best kind! Great deer up there, too.
I shot that 8 pt on the Killam Duval County Ranch about 7 miles west of Freer, Texas. Low fence but they have 125,000 acres so you don't really need HF! haha Quote:
|
Is that a paid hunt you went on for that deer or member of the lease?
|
Heh, either way, you pay. My daughter and I did a 4 day/3 night hunt.
I'd lease there but it's too far away. 7 hr drive or so. I believe the leasing starts at over $10k/year or something like that on the Killam Ranch. I leased up until 2011 in Central Texas and a bit in East Texas. Got tired of that crap. Too much work, too many poachers, and too many lease members with no ethics. Check out my daughter's monster 7 point on THF (no login required): http://www.texashuntingforum.com/for...pics/3792394/1 Quote:

I shoot to fill the freezer. Is love to have a trophy, but you can't eat the horns and can only stare at them so often/long. Haha

I used to shoot whatever had horns but if it's under 3 1/2 I don't like to shoot them anymore. Like to let them get some size. Problem with a lease is that not everyone shares my sentiments 8-] |

That 7 point was a monster - bigger than my 8 point and much cheaper. Go figure 8-] My hunt was $3000 (for a management deer - scored 148, dressed 155) and my daughter's was $2000 for a "cull" hunt. Yep, that 7 pt is a cull because he's 6 1/2 years old and he's only a 7 point. He dressed at 165. My daughter also shot a doe and a pig. I shot a pig as well. I tipped a total of 15% on top of all that. All in all - two bucks that dressed out at a combined 320 lbs, a doe, and two pigs. This included 3 nights lodging and more food than you could really eat. Not all culls are that nice but the sweet thing about that ranch is that nothing under 5 1/2 years old gets shot so you see some pretty good sized deer. On public land or a generic lease in Texas you'll rarely see anything over 3 1/2. You will but it's rare. Antler restrictions help some I think. |
