Flip key for our Stangs

I got this from another forum (SVT) but didn't see it posted here. I got my flip key in this past weekend and it works like a charm. The guy at Home Depot was a little hesistant to cut the key and kept saying I should goto a locksmith to program it...come on dude. He ended up cutting it and didn't charge me anything. The instructions that were included in the package from the ebay seller worked like a champ.

Here is the LINK to the item on ebay

I also emailed a guy on Ebay who made a "5.0" sticker to replace the ford sticker on the key fob. One of the guys from SVT got it...looks pretty cool.

Had mine about 2 weeks. :)

Love it! Although I wish the FOB would work a little better than it does.

Screw SVT but the key is pretty cool

Is it a distance issue or range?

If so put the FOB up to your chin and hit the button it will double the range because it will use your body as a conductor...try it.

Not sure. I can stand right by the car and hit the button 5 times and have it register 2-3 times only. Changes the battery and that helped the range.

Honestly, I think it's just a warm out circuit board, because I'm pretty sure these keys are used Ford keys with blanks on them.

A lot of HomeDepot/Lowes stopped cutting automotive keys with a remote/transponder because they don't wants to be liable for it if the key doesn't work for whatever reasons.

I tried the HomeDepot and Lowes in Allen and both of them refused to cut mine. Finally took it to A1 Locksmith in Plano and the key was cut without a hitch. I did have to acknowledge that they are not responsible for the key because they did not sell it to me.

I did notice that the transmitter is not as responsive as the OEM ones. If I hit the trunk button twice quickly, the key fob apparently only send out one signal. Try slowing down your double-click rate and see if that make a difference.

No issues so far...hopefully it will stay that way.

Still doesn't work like that sometimes. I hit the trunk button 4 times tonight after school with at least a second between each one, and it took to the 4th hit.

Got mine today. Had the kid at the new Walmart in Lucas cut the key for me. Programmed w/o a hitch and seems to be working fine.

Cool. I ordered some 5.0 stickers. I think it comes with 6 or 8. If so, I can mail out the extras if anyone is interested.

I don't think you can do that. The track keys are specifically program by Ford.

Doug1227 03-05-2013 11:54 PM

I wouldn't care except that he put the damn Ford sticker on mine crooked! LOL! Let me know if you want to mail me one!

Nope, just take an x-acto knife or pocket knife and pick at on of the edges. It's a concaved sticker, so it is hard to bend.

I work for Ford Motor Company....If the key programs to the car, I am sure you could program it as a trak key....not really sure why it would not work.

Does the trak key not have a specific coding to it?

Being that you have to order a track key directly from ford, I would think there is something different there in relation to a normal key.

I haven't had a chance to program mine yet. But the Trak Key technology is the same as the Ford MyKey technology. I haven't done a whole bunch of research on the key technology and which module makes the decision that its a different key (Instrument cluster, BCM, PCM?)....obviously some sort of RF chip or something is recognized in the key.

but the directions to program the trak key are simple....and the only unique thing you get when buying M-14204-MBTKA is the voucher ID.

Pretty sure it's Ford's way of recouping the money that was spent on writing the performance PCM software.

Basically, my best educated guess is that the actual program and technolgy has nothing to do with the "red medallion key". The key's ID number is just associated with the trak key PCM program. (if thats what you were wondering).

That would make sense.

Thinking of getting one of these, after using a jetta equivalent.

Any wear and tear issues?

Does the mykey settings work with this?

DirtyD 11-28-2013 08:12 PM

MyKey still works. I don't use mine anymore because the range flat out sucks.

RedRaider5.0 11-28-2013 10:51 PM

Mine still works great.
