How is the finished supposed to end up? Still "brushy"?

Yea it is. I put three coats but should have stopped at 2. And not brushy at all, smooth as can be

Got my first chance to Auto-x the Konis last weekend. Good stuff. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. :)

Combined with the Maximum Motorsport plates camber plates (maxed out on caster and 2.5 degrees camber, its definitely handling a lot better and feels a lot better. I was really struggling to stay in place, even with the Recaros. Might be harness time.

For now, I mostly need to work on the nut behind the wheel. SCCA in Crandall this Sunday. I'd like to give it a go on a concrete surface.

El_Tortuga 11-05-2013 03:18 PM

Oh yeah. Felt really weird painting the "yellows" black, but from certain angles they kind of stood out. Other than the rims and the faux filler, I'm ready to run moonshine.

The calipers didn't come out as I was wanting so thinking about painting them yellow to match...

That sucks. Yellow would be different. But it would be a good contrast with the struts behind the black wheels.

LOL. To each his own I guess.

03MachMe 11-14-2013 11:10 PM

with the time off I got for my son being born I decided to get a good detail.

car was pretty dusty from the sawdust from the wood floors we had installed..
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psf26a6d21.jpg

first was a bath with dish soap to get everything off. and off come the stripes.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps4b6dd53d.jpg
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps8c0885cf.jpg

Next was Clay bar, Used the Meguiars clay bar kit. (sorry no pics, its clay bar nothing exciting)

next all taped off so I dont get any of the product on the plastic or vinyl.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps5212a07c.jpg

the product I used this time. I was out of the polish and all the autozones around me were sold out of the professional polish so I had to use the consumer level product.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps53a5f98c.jpg
yes I know these are not the best products out there but they were what I had on hand and worked well for what I was trying to do.

It took me 3 days and my hands are killing me from the porter cable but I finally finished and it looks like glass!

Koni's, Brembos, and Whiteline bushing will be installed on sat so will update after that. Then goes back to bigworm on monday for the stripes to be put back on. Then Autocross in Crandall on teh 24th.

Yeah, I just need to get up there to you. Lol

If I didn't have a mod day next Saturday with Patrick, I'd do it before the AutoX.

03MachMe 11-26-2013 12:29 AM

well the rest took a little longer than I was expecting, but finally got everything done.

Ran into some trouble with the Brembos on the first try to install so I had to order some SS lines. finally got it all installed and working tonight.

First day of install got the Koni yellows and Whiteline Trans bushing done. no pictures because I was too frustrated about about the brembos.

after I ordered some SS lines I got them in and everything bolted right up.

Old vs new

and Got my wheels im going to use for autocross in today. Like others I couldn't pass up the $200 black Friday price for a full set of wheel. I know the 18x9 will not be optimal but they will work until I really deiced to get serious and then I will go with some light weight 18x11s anyways.

I've been wanting to do the same to my rotors. Just some brush on high temp paint?

03MachMe 01-09-2014 07:42 PM

I used the spray caliper paint

How do you like the Koni yellows with the Eibach Sportline springs? I was looking into a set of the yellows but have read that with the Sportline springs that the ride was bad.

Toby 01-10-2014 09:40 AM

Very cool Ryan! The blue calipers look good!

I have had zero issues. I read that too and was a little worried but glad I stuck with the sportlines. Mine is not a daily but the ride is more comfortable that it was with stock shocks amd struts. As long as you have the shorter bump stops that came with the sportlines you will be fine.

Thanks I like the look just wish they popped a little more. Still debating on painting them yellow in the future

re-rx7 01-10-2014 12:49 PM

Man that just tells you how bad the stock shocks and struts really are. They have no rebound or damping.

Have you thought about having them powdercoated??

What color? To do paint match powder coat I was quoted 250 or something like that. For yellow it's like 100. The color isn't off because I did a crappy job painting it's just the difference in material, no primer etc. In person it's really not that much off just didn't pop like I was wanting it to.

I guess just any color. I was thinking about doing red for mine. $250 doesn't seem too bad. I know the guy that does powder coating on SVTP will tear them down, coat them, and then reassemble them with new something (brain fart) and it's not too bad of a cost. Don't know an exact number though.
