Default Five Star Ford @ ECR, Nov 17, 2012

Didn't see a thread on this event so... there was a Ford-centric track event at Eagles Canyon Raceway this past weekend. HPDE, 4 run groups, 63 or so cars, perfect weather, tons of 5.0 Mustangs.

Lots and lots of 5.0s!

My wife Amy drove our 2011 GT to a best lap of 1:57.7 - a new personal best for her. Lots of fun - next time Five Star holds a track event again I will post up here about it as soon as registration is open.

Cheers,

I was hoping to make it out, but homework and a Rahr Brewery tour/party took the cake. Lol

Definitely need to practice before I do something like this though.

There's another ECR track event in less than 3 weeks! We will bring both of our 5.0s to the ECR Toy Run event on December 8th. Going to finally put some decent coilovers (AST 4200RR) on my black 2013 GT + a full Whiteline Watts Link kit and run with the 295mm street tires. Some new Carbotech track pads and the 18x10" wheels. My wife will be driving our red 2011 GT again with just a fresh set of Carbotechs and the same Kumho V710 tires (data logging showed it made 1.3g lateral).

We will be having our annual toy run again this year. Cost is $50 per driver, a new unwrapped toy, and 2 non perishable foods. We will be donating all proceeds to the Wise Hope Shelter, and other needy families in the Wise Co. area.We had over 200 families last year to help and it has grown this year.So we need all the help we can get!!! We will run from 9am until 5pm. We will run 3 groups beginner, Intermediate,& Advanced. So come on out an join us!
This is the annual "Toy Run" event, which is only fifty bucks + an unwrapped toy! HELL of a deal. Get your cars ready!

@Terry, what about getting teched, or will they do that on site. 50 bucks is a hell of a steal. What wheels are you running on the red stang? size/weight? I wanna switch to 18x10 for next year, still looking for a reasonable option that looks good too.

They like it when you handle tech before the event by a certified HPDE tech shop in the area (hint: Vorshlag is a NASA approved tech shop). They will also do it on site, but you would need to get there early to avoid missing your first session. When we do an HPDE inspection the car spends an hour on the lift and we check all sorts of suspension/chassis bolts, fluids, wheel bearings, lug nuts, and all sorts of safety gear. We charge $75, which is less than what most of the other shops charge per hour.

We run our 18x10" wheels on the street ($309, 19# each) for both of our cars, which can fit 275s easily (red car below has 275/40/18) or 295s if you use a small spacer up front (295/35/18 on the black one).

For track/autocross events we use a Forgestar F14 in 18x11" front and 18x12" rear, with 315/35/18 R compounds.

This 18x11F/18x12R wheel set is not a street-worthy set-up, as we had to do some tricks to make the 12" wide rears fit under the stock fenders (Whiteline swaybar helped) and lots of negative camber up front to clear on that end.

Our 2013 GT is getting a tire upgrade to 345mm rears and 335mm fronts. Why? Because every time we've upped the tire size lap times dropped. This car is a fatass, and big tires help counter-act the weight. This will require cutting the fenders and flaring. We have not found have proper flares yet (no, not the RTR faux-flares shown at SEMA) and will likely have to make something. The car above shows about what the flares will look like to clear 335/345 tires.

We are a Forgestar dealer and can custom order just about anything you can dream up.

I see what you did there. The only thing likely to "break" on an S197 Mustang in track use are the "brakes". Track-worthy brake pads make a huge difference, as does proper high temp brake fluid. Maybe.... $300 for pads + a brake fluid flush and you're usually good to go.

How much for just a fluid change/updgrade? Do you guys sell helmets too?

I've tried a lot of different brake pads and finally found a brand I like. We're setting up a Carbotech dealership this week...

As for brake upgrades... the '11-up front 14" Brembos are the bomb. Anything bigger or 6 piston is just for bling.

Agreed - we don't sell helmets and Summit is hard to beat on price.

For the best fit go to a local shop that sells them and try several sizes on. Smiley's has a few, as does PerformanceSpeedTech out at MSR. If you try them on there, it is nice to buy from them...

I would love to get into this part of the hobby, but unfortunately it's too expensive for me. If I were to get back into racing again, it would be this. So I guess I'll have to stick to my country backroad cruising. lol.

I got invited to this by Five Star when I purchased my car but there was just too much to buy and learn in the short time I've owned the car.

Honestly I thought they meant drag strip when they said "track day"

Looks like fun though
