Check closely at the seat back reclining mechanism. That part is likely to get damaged in a wreck and the seat would be unsafe to use.
As for the price of the Recaro seat, they are not outrageously priced when you consider a typical Recaro Sport seat is about $800 and you still have to buy seat tracks. Add seat airbag to the deal and you are right up there.
I've used cheaper seat before and consider I can twist and flex the seat back with my bare hands does not make it confidence inspiring about how they will hold up in a crash. Seats are a major part of a safety system so don't skim on it.
If the seat back breaks easily in a crash, your seat belts, airbags, etc. are all made useless if you are not in the seated position.
