Intake heat shield

Not sure this will really work but it is interesting. Thought I would share.

Wouldn't work on my intake.

DirtyD 06-20-2013 11:56 AM

I'm sure it will help a little bit. As said in the thread on SVTP, any cooler IATs will be a benefit. Throw in E85 and your motor will be an ice box (not really).

The price is supposedly under $100, so I'm at least going to try it when it comes out next month, as that is the current release time frame.

Jeff, can you not just unhook your nozzles and trim holes in the shield to slip over?

Kosovobandit 06-20-2013 12:01 PM

I am thinking of trying it, but wanted to pass this on to everyone on this board.

Dan12GT 06-20-2013 03:16 PM

Very interesting! Too bad I don't have a boss manifold.

Dan12GT 06-20-2013 03:22 PM

nevermind just noticed there is supposed to be one for standard manifolds as well.

Rebelracer568 06-20-2013 04:36 PM

Very interesting. I maybe trying this out on my car.

Oxford14Stang 06-20-2013 08:52 PM

Sounds like something to try.

Pepperinyoureye 06-20-2013 11:37 PM

I'll try it

46Tbird 06-21-2013 11:04 AM

Snake oil!

re-rx7 06-21-2013 11:44 AM

I can see it helping a little bit.

Pepperinyoureye 06-21-2013 01:21 PM

I would like to see some more independent testing done as well.

Intake heat shield

I'm sure SVTP and some other people like Lethal, Latemodel, or AM will do something.

After seeing this, I ordered heatshield hp mat from auto anything, $46 shipped and enough to wrap the bottom of my stock intake manifold and my airraid box. It looks to be the same material heatshield is using just uncut. I don't want to spend money on a dyno but I will be using an infrared thermometer to measure the intake temp before and after the wrap and will post up the info regardless of results. Should be shipping out Monday so hopefully next week I can get it done.

I'll definitely be getting this, Makes too much sense not to invest in it.

eh im not sold.
Too many variables in that review. Seems they give a false sense of hope and big power gains to an otherwise stock/mild bolt on car.

Ive tested with my aeroforce and while temps slowly rise while at rest as they would with or without this heatshield, my IAT's once moving are always within +/- 2 degrees of ambient.

re-rx7 06-25-2013 12:43 PM

I usually use gold reflect tape to keep heat off things. Im in the process of doing my intake heat shield.

I'm interested to see your results. Keep us updated.

Looks like the kit is available and should be shipping soon.

Sorry the link is to BBR, but I just copied the link provided on SVTP.

Attempted to install today by removing my airaid box first to wrap. Found out quickly that the hp shield will not stick for shit to plastic. I ended up giving up and reinstalled without the shield. Maybe the precut piece has some kind of special adhesive that will stick to the plastic.

We just learned from Steve at BBR that the precut pieces come with special adhesive tape to keep it from doing exactly what happened to you.
