Low end??

Is there anything at all out that helps out with the low end on these cars? TB? Any other options on intake manifolds other than boss and cobra jet?

Dan12GT 05-22-2013 05:46 PM

TB will be felt more in the top end.

Keep the stock intake manifold if you want better low end. The boss manifold is cool and all but most people don't see much in terms of gains and you Will lose lowend / tq.

Root Blower for crazy low end.

I kind of want to keep it NA(as long as possible at least). What kind of changes do the full length headers make?

I haven't heard/read of many people changing the cams in these things, anyone have any input on that?

Cams won't help low end. If anything you might even lose more but you pick up a lot on the top end.

re-rx7 05-24-2013 12:22 PM

Why do you need help in the low end? You pulling a trailer?

kanetrain 05-24-2013 12:30 PM

The car just feels sluggish in the lower range, I've even had people drive it and say "it's weird when you hit xxx rpm it feels like the car turns on" it's almost annoying. I've had a few different tunes put on it, so I'm pretty sure it's not the tune. BUT I've never had it dyno tuned...

Have you had the car tuned? If not the "laziness" you are feeling is toque reduction set in the throttle body setting. Basically the throttle body opens much slower than when you actually apply the pedal. (this is tuned this way from ford)

Tune should help a bunch, Long tubes will help but are more for 2800rpm and above where they are going to shine.

Gears will also help stepping into a 3.55/3.73

Let me know if we can help

Great post. I think a tune would alleviate alot of what is irking him. My car feels strong down low.

Def the vtak!

That's always been a problem with OHC engines compared to OHV designs. You can usually wind the OHCs up higher, but the OHVs produce the low end torque, especially in the big cube versions.

my95z28 05-24-2013 03:27 PM

Long tubes are just going to accentuate the feeling. Honestly different gears and a tune are going to be your best bet. You already have 3.73s, maybe a 4.10?

Jesus 4:10's would not be fun at all.:wtf:

BLK2012GT 05-24-2013 04:31 PM

I had 4.10's. got rid of them within 200 miles.

Still prob has more peak hp and tq bu it was a hot and humid day.

BLK2012GT 05-24-2013 04:49 PM

So six hp for long tubes? Hmmmmmm

Midnight11 05-24-2013 04:57 PM

I didn't spend that much tard and you have no clue what you're talking about. So keep posting your dyno graphs

blownaltered 05-24-2013 05:02 PM

Damn that 2.1 foot pounds of torque extra must shred those tires. How do you keep your tires from spinning in the rims. Did you borrow some of Steve's pop rivets to hold them in place.

I certainly wouldn't want them, just giving options for more low end like the OP asked for.

Heh, I stand corrected. You picked up far more low end than anything

BLK2012GT 05-24-2013 05:17 PM

We have a small block 302. There is no such thing as low end power or tq.

Midnight11 05-24-2013 06:00 PM

Cool it guys me and Jeff were joking

Brown you talk alot for someone who can't even beat Steve

The difference is Steve will never admit he lost and is a mod so he can change what he wants. I also had a passenger and he didn't. So when I pulled by and fender on the first race and on the last one he pulled by a fender with a 150lbs less in my car I would have pulled further ahead.

The first two time we ever raced my car was untuned and running rich as hell so I never really went all out. I was shifting below 5500 and rolled into it. If he wants to brag about that its fine, but I laugh everytime I hear about it.

And you bragging about 2.1 ft lbs of torque is still a joke.

He's not bragging about his peak tq. He was showing what he gained down low.
