2011-13 DIY Speaker Install
Thought I would make a diy for the speaker install. I installed Pioneer 6x8s on my 13 with the shaker 500. On the 13 if you have the shaker 500 you will need the 11-12 speaker bracket. The part numbers are 4R3Z-18B947-AA AND 4R3Z-18B947-AB. They came out to 26 bucks at the dealer. Thanks Greg! Only need the brackets if you have a 2013 WITH the shaker system!
Tools Interior trim remover tool 7mm t30 torq wrench 6mm 1. Unclip and remove 7 7mm bolts. 2 on each side and 3 on the bottom http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5f1c12bf.jpg 2. Remove the window switch and unbolt the 7mm bolt http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps03473cb7.jpg 3. Remove the mirror cover http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc91466a4.jpg 4. Remove the panel on the grab handle and then remove the t30 bolt. Same step on the door handle too http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps03473cb7.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps6eab2d66.jpg 5. Now you can remove the panel. Lift up and out. Once you get that off remove the 3 6mm bolts on the speaker. Unclip the harness and pull it out. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5eefa1ec.jpg 6. Place the new 11-12 bracket where the old speaker bracket was positioned. It will just snap in place. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps46d2e842.jpg 7. Install the speaker harness on the factory clip. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psdb234f59.jpg 8. Screw the speaker in place and reintsal all the pieces! Enjoy the new sound!! http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psb3f56e9f.jpg Comparison pics http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps4f592567.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps8c8e5dd0.jpg |
II take it those tweeters must suck? You could always relocate them though if you wanted.
Good write up Nic. I need to get my panels off so I can sound deaden. |
yes its not worth it. sounds way better just with the speakers. the stock speaker say 25watt on them lol
|
I am pretty dissapointed in the Shaker sound system in my 5.0. My last vehicle was a ram with the Alpine 509W 9 speaker upgrade and I thought it was great for a factory sound system.
|
Great write-up. I did this in my '11 which didn't have the shaker sysem so wasn't sure how the bracket looked on my '13. Did you look at the sub in the door? Wondering how puny it is.
|
It's an 8" sub. Most likely a shallow mount-like style.

Did this today but did 5 1/4 component (which is what is there on the 13) and it is a night and day difference. The sound is unreal from a simple mod, the factory speakers have the smallest magnets and voice coilsI have ever seen.... Great write up by the way.

I wonder if it would be worth putting some dynamat around them upon install. Also What is the sensitivity rating on the Polks you purchased?

Does any one know what kind of continuous/peak watts the stock reciever provides to those 6x8s?
|
I'd guess the RMS wattage is 15-25 watts, stock stereos have gotten much better in the last few years but they are still very underpowered.
|
I thought I had already posted it here, but I went with Infinity 6832cf's. I got them off of Amazon for around $60/pair. I went ahead and bought the factory wiring adapter so it would be plug and play. They sound GREAT compared to stock and a great price!

Also I'm not very confident in high voltage (speaker) wire inputs on amps, nor have I found a good line level converter that's not ridiculously expensive. I've had my share of head units, but I like stock looking head units for security now... |
Exactly. That's why is love a speaker with a higher sensitivity to balance out with the rest of the system. I dnt wanna have to crank the radio up just to et the same sound as stock.
|
Good writeup! Ford should be ashamed to put a sound system like they have in the stang.
I put kappas in all 4 corners as well as a alpine type r 12 in a sealed box with the 500 and it's an amazingly clear setup. The kappas sensitivity works great with the door subs and I toned down the sub hz crossover where the slopes mesh well.I will say tho... the back speakers are a pita! Took a hr for the doors and a whole Day for the rears lol. |
Question....will i need those brackets if I have a 2011 with the shaker sound?

Gonna pick up some speakers today.

I'm definitely gonna have to do this. The base speakers are horrible
|
The Shaker bass is enough for me. The highs are lacking severely.
