30k miles, Blown motor.

2011 GT, noticed a clacking noise as I drove in this morning. Went to dealer, they said there was NO OIL in the car, have to replace motor.

I got a full synthetic oil change 1 yr ago, have been to the dealer 3 times since then for an alignment and a couple warranty issues, they do the 30pt inspection each time and mark off that the oil is OK.

thats why I havent checked it myself, last time was only 2 months ago, took to dealer and they checked on the inspection that the oil was OK, apparently they just rubberstamped the inspection and never actually looked, other wise how does 8qts of oil dissapear in 2 months? there are no leaks.

now have to battle with Ford or the dealer to see who can pay 10,000 for a new motor....

joy. any advice?

BLK2012GT 03-20-2013 05:11 PM

And that there kids is why I change my own oil. Good luck with this fuck up its going to be messy.

DirtyD 03-20-2013 05:13 PM

Damn. Being you have the multi-point inspection sheet showing it is perfectly fine, I would hope they will believe you when you tell them you honestly have not checked it yourself.

Good luck man

Phuck Phace 03-20-2013 05:28 PM

Damn, tell them you need the boss engine.

BLK2012GT 03-20-2013 05:40 PM

GT500 engine

blownaltered 03-20-2013 05:52 PM

how many miles did you put on it since the last change?

pollila 03-20-2013 06:03 PM

it was due for an oil change for sure, I just hadn't done it yet because last oil change was 10k miles ago and I put in full synthetic and SUPPOSEDLY that was good for 10k miles.

but the reason I didnt do it the last couple months was because I had been bringing it to the ford dealer (don davis arlingont) and they had been SUPPOSEDLY checking the oil in the 30pt inspection.

I have responsibility for sure to check my oil and change it, but when I am trusting what the dealer tells me that my oil is OK, why would I doubt it??

also, there was NEVER any warning light or indication of low oil or pressure... the dealer said there were 2 quarts left in it.

Grandpa 03-20-2013 06:05 PM

My advice would be to check your oil once in awhile. While you may not change it yourself there is no reason not to be checking it. You are a car guy this should be a no brainer.

Agreed.

Boss > gt500

The gt500 uses the same powdered metal rods the GT does. The internals in the boss are better suited for more power. Why that is i have no idea. Seems pretty stupid to me for the flagship Stang to use a weak motor like that. A lot of 13 gt500s have been struggling to keep their motors together over 650rw.

Midnight11 03-20-2013 06:09 PM

these motors do burn oil. i always check my level periodically

JDBishopArts 03-20-2013 06:20 PM

Yes I always check mine too but holy crap, 10k miles and you didn't personally check it? I'm surprised no one else has asked this but does your car have any mods?

jng2985 03-20-2013 06:44 PM

jesus! Good luck man.. Be happy you have ford service receipts and dont be surprised when you hear some out of the park reasons for the vanishing oil.

STROKD 03-20-2013 07:44 PM

sad sad day. do your cars not have idiot lights? I NEVER checked my damn VW's, one day as I was driving to the dealer it went berzerk and said shut engine down low oil... I turned it off and coasted into the VW service bay about half a mile away... lol turns out it was only a qt low...

MidWest281 03-20-2013 08:19 PM

Oh, Hi.

MidWest281 03-20-2013 08:20 PM

...let me know how that turns out....

Toby 03-20-2013 08:25 PM

And that is why 10k miles on an oil change is the most redeculious thing i have heard. I would never even consider putting that many miles on an oil change. 3k miles it gets changes regardless of the type.

Totally agree, but my VW's are free at 10k and I dont gaf if they blow up. lmao... For a high power 5.0 though, yea, Id pay to change it at least every 5k. The Vettes at 5k seem to look pretty good, and I add a qt or two in between changes as necessary.

GrabberMatt 03-20-2013 11:26 PM

Mods?

pohnjarker 03-21-2013 02:37 AM

damn, hope this works out for the better. i second on asking for the Boss motor...haha

downtime! 03-21-2013 03:32 AM

Seriously? 10k and you never lifted the hood even once? My oil gets changed every 3000 miles (even running full synthetic) and I have the hood up every weekend doing something (cleaning, adding something, whatever) so it's just common practice to check the oil.

And just an FYI, but if any of your cars are using oil, you need to get it looked at. My car has 32000 miles, gets driven hard regularly, and doesn't use a drop between changes.

ummm, i dont care what they tell you, change the oil at least every 5k, if not 3k. also these motors go through oil pretty quick. this is not surprising that you burned through all your oil in 10k. I was two quarts low after a track day once. but the fact that you regularly had the car checked at the ford dealership should help your case. was the oil change light not coming on? those things usually go by the amount of miles you drive.

saunupe1911 03-21-2013 09:53 AM

My Coyote, burned oil in between that 10k to 20k mile period. I checked it one morning and it was low as hell. I went to Bill Utter Ford and had them put it on their Oil usage interval test. It didn't burn enough oil to warrant a new motor. It burned like half a quart the next 5k miiles, which seems to normal for these motors. I currently use Mobile 1 Advanced Full Synthetic and now I don't burn much if any at all at close to 35k. So original poster, change that oil every 5k bro. I wouldn't dare go 1 mile over 5k even though my oil is guranteed at 15k interval. Good luck on everything. At least you have paperwork proving your point.

Grandpa 03-21-2013 09:59 AM

LOL, I've already come to terms with I will be putting a new motor in this car at some point but I won't be doing it with another stock motor!

GrabberMatt 03-21-2013 11:01 AM

im on motor #2 :doh2:

I can't agree more. It drives me nuts watching these guys here changing their oil every 10k miles. It doesn't matter what the oil company says that oil can do, changing your oil every 3k to 5k will save you 5k on a new motor. For the guys not changing your oil here is some math for you. If you put 100k on the motor and change your oil every 10k, you will change the oil 10 times. Lets say a 100 bucks a pop so that is a $1000. Every 5k would be 20 times so that would be $2000. So over 6 years you would have spent an extra $1000. Now you decided to save that $1000 over 6 years so now you get to spend $5000 now, makes sense to me.

Get outta here with that common sense stuff, mister!

Dark Pony 03-21-2013 12:13 PM

I ran my Silverados and Sierras 8-10k miles all the time with Mobil 1 and they ran perfect. I take a different mindset with sportscars...especially ones that are driven hard. I change mine every month...which unfortunately ends up being 3k miles...

Exactly, doesnt make sense if you plan to keep the car a long time. I havent put 100k on one car in my life... my 86 has about 65k or so on it from when I bought it, and its going on it's 6th engine. The vert we bought new, but it only has 105k on it and its on its second engine, and I didnt drive it but maybe 1/3 those miles from new...

For the VWs they are slow and dont use any oil. The dealer makes me wait 10k to change the oil for free, so I wait... I dont care if it blows up, its under warranty and its VW's fault if it booms up making me wait for oil changes. I got 11,300 out of my last oil change, oil light never came on.

46Tbird 03-21-2013 03:35 PM

Just FYI, a Ford dealership will not pay to put in a Boss 302 service replacement engine in a GT under any circumstances that I'm aware of. Maybe your sister-in-law's baby cousin Tracy said it can happen, but a Ford service manager isn't going to be able to get it approved. I already asked. lmao

TrueStreetMotorSports.com 03-21-2013 05:08 PM

Did the low oil light not come on?

IHateThisSite 03-21-2013 06:30 PM

Look at TS coming in with the logical question .... Not that it really matters at this point ... Damage is done... And I vote 5k miles not 3k miles ... 3k is a waste and I have never seen any proof that oil changes at 3k give any added bonus over 5k

MidWest281 03-29-2013 02:36 AM

what ever happened with this?

Midnight11 03-29-2013 07:50 PM

congrats on getting it covered by ford ;)

30k miles, Blown motor.

What he got a boss engine too? Jk

Pepperinyoureye 03-29-2013 11:28 PM

Yeah 10k interval is real stupid. I check mine every week and do 5k intervals and haven't burned a drop at 22k miles.

Austin@BA-Speed 03-31-2013 06:21 PM

Whats the point in checking your oil every week if you know it hasn't burned any oil in the last 22k?

Pepperinyoureye 03-31-2013 06:48 PM

Never been paranoid with shit breaking until buying this car.
