My 2013 GT Oil Analysis

We were talking about it a while back but I didn't want to dig up an old thread. Here's the UOA I got back for anyone interested. Mostly daily driving with a couple trips to the track and runs down the highway. There's room for improvement but compared to others I've seen for this motor it's on par for the other Motorcraft 5w-20 reports.

Oh and Royal Purple HPS 5w-30 went in so in a few months I'll try and remember to update this.

rriddle3 06-14-2013 11:21 AM

Good UOA. It shows there is no reason for people to put down a 20 weight oil, especially Motorcraft, in an engine designed for it. Looks like you could get 8,000 miles on it and it's sure less expensive than Royal Purple.

re-rx7 06-14-2013 11:26 AM

this is exactly what I was saying about motorcraft oil. Its not bad, not the best, but for the price its hard to beat. My next change Im going with Penzoil Ult or back to motorcraft.

Luke 06-14-2013 11:43 AM

Yeah, as you can see they recommended 6000 miles, this oil had just over 4000 on it. I have read though that if the TBN is below 3 it's about time for a change. Since there is already RP in it now I'm going to 7500 and will compare.

I think you will see gd results with Royal Purple. Thanks for taking the time to send off for oil analysis. Are you running a OEM filter?

Yep.

And if anyone plans on doing an oil analysis feel free to use this thread for updates. It'll make it easier to compare results.

Keep in mind motorcraft is a syn blend.

Dan12GT 06-14-2013 06:17 PM

When I change out my Amsoil i'll update here. I have about 4500 on it now.

TrueStreetTim 06-14-2013 08:49 PM

Cool info. Thanks for sharing!

Dominic Toretto 06-18-2013 03:01 PM

I was not aware that Motorcraft was a synthetic oil! Very good to know. I was worried about that and was looking to switch to Royal Purple. I may still do that anyway though.

What Ford puts in is a synthetic blend oil, not a true synthetic. I'm not sure why it's labeled that way on the report.

Joey289 06-18-2013 03:26 PM

How much do these cost?

I did my 1st oil change at 5000 miles and went to Mobil 1. I plan to get 7500-8000 miles out of this oil ( manual and oil monitor show it can go 10k miles between oil changes). I will get a report done at the next change. Should be early August.

Luke 06-18-2013 03:31 PM

I think it was about $25, I had my wife send it in for me since I'm out of town. The TBN is a little extra. There are lots of other places that do the tests though, prices might vary.

Sounds about right. Same thing as Mobil 1 then.

Mobil 1 is a full Synthetic. The Motorcraft Oil the factory uses is a Synthetic blend.

Motorcraft does offer a full synthetic but I do not believe that is what the factory puts in these cars.

Mobil 1 is a Base 3 POA which is not a full synthetic oil. Anything at a POA 4-5 is a fully synthetic motor oil. Mobil is advertised as full synthetic due to its great ability to protect against wear. I read an article in DSport magazine that I still have at home, that did a HUGE detailed review on motor oil in general. I typed out the entire article over on Corvetteforum. I will copy it here in a new thread. Stay tuned :)

The term 'full synthetic' has become a misnomer since there is no universally accepted definition. It's now become a throw-around term for oil made with Group III, IV, or V base.

Back from the dead but here's my 8200 mile Royal Purple 5w-30 analysis

GTOphil 02-11-2014 10:20 PM

I use Mobil-1 5w20

Pennzoil Synthetic Blend 5w30 in our truck.

Both PER Ford specs.

re-rx7 02-11-2014 10:31 PM

Pennzoil ultra. Hard to beat.

Dominic Toretto 02-17-2014 09:15 AM

Thanks for the update.

Yep, multiple test have shown Pennzoil Ultra to basically be the top "of the shelf oil" you can buy. It beats Royal purple and Mobile 1 extended. Still can't hang with Amsoil, but its not on shelves.

Okay. Here's the results of the analysis I just had done on my oil. Blackstone recommended trying 9,000 miles next time and that's on Mototcraft syn blend. Fine by me.

re-rx7 03-09-2014 09:46 PM

Looks like that's about the limit.

rriddle3 03-10-2014 12:02 AM

I switched to Motorcraft 5W30 when I did this oil change. I may or may not do another UOA when I have it changed according to the oil life monitor. Since Don Davis Ford does a change with filter for $32, I can live with the findings. :happy107:

DirtyD 03-10-2014 09:33 AM

My current oil change is going to be my last time running the Motorcraft Synth blend 5W-20. I plan to do a UOA and see how the car has done on this oil for 42k miles, then the Amsoil 5W-20 full synth goes in.

saunupe1911 03-10-2014 09:50 AM

Very interesting in seeing results.
