How do you use your car?

I'm curious, what is your choice how you use your car? With so many different options of the hobby these days, what is your choice?

Spirited street driving?

Drag strip?

Autocross?

Drift?

Roll racing? (including standing mile/half mile events)

Car shows?

Daily driver only?

saunupe1911 03-20-2014 10:16 AM

Good post! My car is a daily driver with track oriented parts that I put in use for spirited street driving. And to be honest, you have to drive aggressive in the DFW.

Dominic Toretto 03-20-2014 10:18 AM

Spirited street driving and daily driver. Steve you should setup a poll.

I used to race mine. It's slow/stock again, so she's just a daily driver now.

Of course I've only drag raced it twice, once at an actual drag strip. Other than that, it's my DD with some spirited driving and AutoX mixed in.

Crimson600+HP 03-20-2014 10:37 AM

Track primarily. Road race is what the car is built for and puts the most miles on. After that, I drag it a little, standing mile, and an occasional auto-x. Maybe gets daily driven once a week, but now I tow her to all the events I go to with my truck.

saunupe1911 03-20-2014 10:45 AM

Yeah most of us was at that Texas Metroplex drag event so yeah I've dragged raced once. I've smoked a few bimmers and LX cars on the tollway for giggles lol that stuff wasn't my main reason for usage. I just wanted a badazz street machine

Pewter Lurch 03-20-2014 10:47 AM

Spirited daily driving.

donutninja 03-20-2014 10:51 AM

Daily spirited driving around town and Auto-X. Used to drift a little but kind of afraid to with a new car that isn't paid off yet XD. So no Dorifto for a while.

Very true! DFW traffic is nuts. I was on 635 the other day and it's nuts over there! That construction is crazy and people still driving with no care at all!

I've always wanted to learn car control like that to be able to slide a car around, but I'm too much of a sissy to abuse my car like that. I've gotten old and hate fixing stuff cuz I broke it! lol

Plus the expensive wheels on my car really discouraged me from trying it. My 5.0 is the most gently used 5.0 ever. lol!

Now my CTS-V on the other hand, I think is a natural drift machine. It's completely useless on these Kumho tires and easy as hell to slide around!:bowroflwerd6:

BERT 03-20-2014 11:35 AM

Daily Driver only. Can probably count on my hands how many times I've made pulls with this thing. Sucks getting old

blownaltered 03-20-2014 11:39 AM

Car show, spirited driving sometimes, the occasional Mexico run and more than anything cruising.

Not anymore. Just a canned VMP tune and the stock airbox. We even took the long tubes off.

The old Ford isn't very fast, we've been 7.6@94ish

Pat McCrotch 03-20-2014 12:34 PM

Spirited daily driver.. I get up to the speed limit real fast, then cruise...

Ever figure out your noise in the tire issue?

LMAO! That's faster than most (not all) of the 5.0's on this site!

Is it? I have no clue what fast is in the 1/8 mile. Only been down 1/4 mile tracks

7.6 is roughly 11.90's or depending on MPH.

El_Tortuga 03-20-2014 01:00 PM

Daily / Autocross / Roadcourse (Trackday/HPDE)

The fun and expense is kind of the same increasing order. For sure, getting on track has reduced my desire to play on the street. Getting on it here or there does not compare to going full out for a 20 minute session.

I'm sure I'll take it down the dragstrip for fun, but can't see that ever being a big focus.

Damn, any clue how that happened?

Wish I knew. Guy at Ford says could be the added traction from the 315's I put on the back, or could be discount tire bolted those big tires on with the axle dropped, the tire would be up against the bump stop bracket and torqueing the bolt down, could bend the axle. Either way, it's getting fixed tomorrow under warranty. And I will stay away from Discount tire next time, just in case.

03MachMe 03-20-2014 06:40 PM

Set up for autocross right now with some nice day driving in between events. Will eventually do road race stuff with it, and have been down the strip a few times but that is boring to me now. Will likely only do that again if it's a big event or a bunch of guys going.

jmurray87 03-20-2014 08:26 PM

Mines my daily driver but I like to keep it clean so it looks good for others to look at. Other then minor bolt ons at some point Ill do a few appearance mods so it will be a DD/Show type car.

re-rx7 03-20-2014 09:56 PM

Daily/cruiser.

Slow Five-O 03-20-2014 11:48 PM

Weekend warrior! Drive it to work one in a while. Other than that just drive to the track or gtg on the weekends.

Adam 03-21-2014 10:19 AM

Daily driver mostly. It's working towards being a decent autocross/road course car.
I'd like to run a 2:0x lap at ecr, be competitive at autox, and get a low 11/high 10 sec slip out of it one day. Haven't quite figured out how I'm going to make it all happen but those are my goals. I think doing the Texas mile event might be fun also.

5PointSlow 03-21-2014 03:56 PM

its my DD that I drag, autox, roll race and generally piss of the normal public with!

1andonlywhitie 03-21-2014 04:20 PM

Daily driver, show car and weekend toy rolled into one. :pepper:
