30k miles, Blown motor.

What he got a boss engine too? Jk

Yeah 10k interval is real stupid. I check mine every week and do 5k intervals and haven't burned a drop at 22k miles.

Austin@BA-Speed 03-31-2013 06:21 PM

Whats the point in checking your oil every week if you know it hasn't burned any oil in the last 22k?

Never been paranoid with shit breaking until buying this car.

What's the harm?

Not really saying its a bad thing, just be confident in your Ford!

There must have been something wrong with your motor to cause something like that. I personally have changed mine at the 10k mark my 1st change with RP and then again at 16k with Amsoil. I changed earlier mainly because I heard mixed things about RP at that point and found Amsoil to have a much better rep so I went ahead with that. TO be honest I was simply excited to just try it.

I also fully plan on going the full 10k recommended change interval as Ford recommends. Each time so far that I have changed my oil it drained what appeared to be the full 8qrts. if not than damn close to it. I can't imagine Ford recommending 10k interval changes if there was any lick of a doubt that might be too long to wait and would potentially cause major problems. That simply would not be a smart move by Ford if there was a risk for motor failure due to waiting a long period of time to change the oil but disregarding that and telling people to change their oil at 10k miles anyway.

I also am going to do an oil analysis after my 10k miles on this oil to see exactly how well it held up.

I personally would only recommend changing the oil more frequently if you are heavily modified or race as those are not what Ford considers as daily operations of our vehicles.

I worked for a GM dealership years back and the service manager explained to me there is a big misunderstanding with modern motor oils. Decades ago there was a lot higher risk for sludge buildup in motors due to the materials and chemicals that comprised the older motor oils. This is why oil was changed frequent enough so that this buildup could be avoided. With all the advanced chemicals present in modern oils of today that "sludge" factor is near completely eliminated (under normal operations and oil changed within manufacturer recommended intervals). We can easily run oil for a much longer duration without risk of harm to our engines.

Don Davis came through for me, they dug deeper in the engine and found it should be warrantied so they are fixing it up under warranty.

midnight11, how did you know they were covering it?

anyway, Don Davis just won some customer loyalty ;)
