there's a nice video on youtube comparing the KB 40a bap and a JMS bap...its on an older mustang but the video does show the KB bap losing voltage toward the end.

ride looks good and those shiny gold brembos are pretty badass. looking forward to seeing the completed pics and even more in person. will it be ready for the TS dyno day?

Doug1227 04-13-2013 06:11 PM

Yes. It's scheduled to be tuned the Monday before the TS dyno day. I probably won't dyno it, but will come out in support and to socialize. The KB BAP in my opinion is the original and a very dependable item. There are others out there now, but I think they're pretty much all the same.

haha, brain fart...you're putting on a KB charger so why not match it up with a KB bap

looking forward to meeting you up there and seeing what my car will put down!!

Doug1227 04-15-2013 09:31 PM

I decided to have the inlet manifold on the KB polished, so I'm gonna have a shop in Mesquite do it. Should have it back sometime late this week or early next week.

Doug1227 04-18-2013 10:17 PM

I got the 2 extra pulleys I ordered and the pulley removal tool from KB yesterday. The aeroforce MAP sensor and Roush vent gauge pod came in today. I haven't hooked up the map sensor yet, but I had to rush out there and install the pod and aeroforce though! :) I dig it. I'll probably wait on the map sensor until I hook up the KB so I can make sure I'm tapping the right line for accurate boost readings. I like the vent pod, as I didn't want a bunch of unsightly gauges hanging off the a-pillar. I'll post up some pics this weekend, as if no one knows what they look like! ha!

Grandpa 04-18-2013 10:23 PM

Nice, Doug. I agree on the a pillars. Ive had them on acouple of cars and they canbe a lil annoying at times.

Doug1227 04-19-2013 06:45 PM

Stealthy!

That Roush pod is a nice piece. I run that and the SOS pillar for everything.

Doug1227 04-22-2013 02:23 PM

I got the intake manifold back from the polisher. It came out pretty good I think!

Any updates, Doug? Get that thing on there yet? :)

Doug1227 04-26-2013 07:23 PM

I'm putting it on Thursday- Sunday of next week. Tune on Monday 5/6.

downtime! 04-26-2013 08:18 PM

Looks like we'll be competing for dyno time! LOL! I'm dropping mine off on the 2nd for the clutch work and stuff, and they can't get to the tune until the 6th. I'm leaving on a 3500 mile road trip (drag race in Ohio) on the 12th, so I hope they get it right!

Stangmaster281 04-26-2013 09:23 PM

They did a great job on the polish. What liter kb is that btw?

Doug1227 04-26-2013 09:33 PM

I hope we're not...I was told he was blocking off pretty much the whole day. I think my appt. is at 11AM. Maybe he'll get to yours earier. :) He can transfer that learning curve over to mine! haha!

Thanks. It's a 2.8LC.

You got a built in 87mm advantage already (I'm still running the stock TB), you aren't goin gto need any extra help! LOL!

Doug1227 04-27-2013 01:10 PM

You've got a few things as well that get that number up.... long tubes, 6M, etc. I'm hoping to make through the A6 what you do, however, I did pick up a couple smaller pulleys just in case!LOL!

I think you'll be surprised what Manny can do with an A6. I doubt you'll "need" a smaller pulley, but you might "want" a smaller pulley! More is almost always better. Are you doing the oil pump at the same time?

Doug1227 04-27-2013 04:52 PM

It has a 4-1/8 on it, and I bought a 3-7/8 and a 3-3/4 just in case. I'll be very happy @ 640-650 assuming he feels it's safe. Not doing the oil pump gears now, as I'm just going to go all out and do a built motor next year. Just gotta keep it together for that long. haha.

That was my thinking too, since there's a built shortblock coming, why do the gears until then? I don't beat on her too hard usually, but she's about to get some track time on the 17th. Hopefully, she cruises back to Texas under her own power and not on the back of a trailer!

Doug1227 05-01-2013 10:23 PM

Surgery is underway! In summary the KB install manual is 454 line items. I quit tonight on Item #55 which involved removing the front fascia. I'll pick up in the morning! Enjoy!

Doug1227 05-01-2013 10:39 PM

In summary for tonight, the intake tube, airbox, all hoses connecting to it, the intake manifold, fuel rails, etc. were removed. I pulled everything off of the intake manifold I'll reuse. Removed the fuel rails, swapped out the injectors with the new 80's and removed the throttle body from the manifold. The next steps tomorrow are to remove the front fascia and start making mods to accommodate the large intake tube. My goal is to get halfway through by the end of the day tomorrow, which would be for all the cutting to be done, air-to-water intercooler installed, bracket with pulleys installed, etc. I aim to have it all done by Friday night, but if it spills a little bit into the weekend, so be it. I'll post up more tomorrow!

Phuck Phace 05-01-2013 10:59 PM

Hell yeah.

merlinmol 05-01-2013 11:45 PM

Hells yeah, :grd:

Doug1227 05-02-2013 02:08 PM

Taking a quick lunch break. Here's what I've got so far today. Removed front fascia, headlight, moved horns, clearanced fender and behind the headlight for the inlet tube, reclocked the knock sensors, installed the air-to-water intercooler, installed the fuel rail and injectors. I'll be installing the bracket and heat exchanger next I believe. Enjoy!

You are a braver man than I, Sir! I've done several Prochargers, but when I saw the book on these, I knew HPP would get ALL my money for this one!

Doug1227 05-02-2013 07:05 PM

Just called it a day. I'm gassed. I got to step 239 which was a little past where I needed to for today. I got the evap reinstalled, IAT and TB harness extensions done. Fuel system is 100% now. Swapped plugs, mounted the pulley bracket, PCV lines, etc. The next step is getting the heat exchanger and pump mounted and wired up. Then setting the head unit on! Woohoo! I need a hot shower. My back is killing me. :)

Almost there! I've got to pick up some antifreeze and some fuel line to replace the coolant overflow line. Then put the front end on, load the temp tune, and fire it up!

All buttoned up! Found one water leak, but besides that, it went pretty smoothly. Loaded the tune, pulled it out of the driveway to sweep my mess up. I'll limp it to HPP on Monday for the final tune. Hell yeah! I'll follow these pics in a minute with the first start.

Nice Doug! Looks like you did a great job there dude. Can't wait to see what it makes...

Doug1227 05-04-2013 03:05 PM

Thanks man. It was a workout. Honestly it wasn't that bad except that I pulled a full on sprint to get it all done quickly. When I installed my turbo kit, I took a couple of weeks, working on it a few hours each night. This was a full on 8 hours per day for 2-1/2 days pretty much. Glad to have it done.

Doug1227 05-04-2013 03:15 PM

It's ALIVE!

Grandpa 05-04-2013 03:38 PM

Bitchin!

Doug1227 05-05-2013 04:31 PM

Drove it to the grocery store today just to make sure everything was going to be ok to limp it to HPP tomorrow. Everything seems fine. It's definitely rich right now. On decel it gets into the 10's on the Aeroforce gauge. Cruising is around 14. It's definitely not optimum, but should be ok limping to the dyno tomorrow.

Rydawg1 05-05-2013 05:52 PM

Dude that's awesome! I'd love to do the same to mine but I'm going to try and hold off until the factory warranty is done before I do anything on mine. Great work though, looking forward to seeing what it puts down!

merlinmol 05-05-2013 06:39 PM

Congrats dude, let us know how she does after the tune!

Doug1227 05-05-2013 08:42 PM

Will do... I'm going to video it as well and should be able to post up the video and dyno results tomorrow night.

juiced86stang 05-05-2013 10:19 PM

Nice!!! Can't wait to see some numbers on this.
