I was wondering if any of you have pointers or guidance on hard wire install and best low key placement of a valentine 1 radar detector in my 2011 GT.

Find a keyed power and a ground. Hide the wiring. It's simple. I have all three of my vehicles hardwired for a V1

Kind of off topic but is this a good detector? I'm pretty sure I'll need one soon. Can't keep my foot out of it.

It isn't bad but I prefer passport.

I need to get a blend mount. I have a suction cup one that is adjustable.

I have two V1's and a escort redline. I live the v1 in the city area and redline for long open roads.

Yeah, it's a little pricey, but looks the best in my opinion. Mine is a passport 9500ix, but same concept.

Are the detectors in general worth it? I mean idk how anyone could react quick enough when a beam of light is put on their car...

you get them off running radar on other cars

Yes, they're worth it.. Depending on the settings, once you know the radar bands used in your area and/or wide spread they help even the playing field. Detectors help more to keep you check daily driving and the tickets I've gotten, I either didn't have it on or was going to fast yet it turned a court date into an expensive ticket. FYI however you mount it make sure you can take it down out of the sun when parked.

HE is talking about laser i believe. LAser is tough to beat without a scrambler.

Correct. I mean don't most jurisdictions in the metroplex use nothing but lidar at this point?

and scrambler and jammers are illegal in tejassss..:(

Not as much as you think. Ka and k band is alot easier to use vs the Laser.

Even laser jammers? I could understand radar since it is radio waves but a laser jammer would just involve sending out visible light waves.

Check out these test results: http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-detector-test-august-2009/staged-real-world-tests.html

V1 consistently rates at the top. The reason you don't see test results from anything earlier than 2009 is the technology the cops are using hasn't changed significantly since there.

At this site, you can also find good info on laser jammers. Yes, illegal in Texas. The Laser Interceptor ranked top consistently. If you call them, family owned shop and very informative. They have a method for Texas whereby the unit becomes a parking assist at the flip of a switch. Funny story they'll tell you, in certain countries around the world these are so illegal the authorities will confiscate the vehicle. So they have a switch that wipes the software clean, it cannot be proven what the unit was. When you get home, you'd have to re-install the software to make it operational again.

I've had a V1 and now a 9500xi.
I believe the multi-antenna on the V1 is superior but no reviews since 09 isn't due to law enforcement technology not changing, its that the v1's have not. Its the same detector is was years ago for the same high price.
Main reason i switched is because of the auto learn feature and red light alerts the escort offers. The V1 can be very chatty in the city and the only was to disable that is to turn off the specific band completely or volume down. Ultimately detectors, jammers etc seem cool as high $$ deterrents to limit speeding tickets, but are no sure thing. 9 times out of ten if you do get stopped for speeding and the LEO sees the detector, you are getting a ticket.

The laser detector basically informs you to go ahead and pull over and wait for the cop to get there. Other than that my V1 does the job. a few false alarms but nothing major.

I have mine hardwired into the map light overhead and mounted to the rear-view mirror. "Blend Mount" makes a good hanger. Got mine on Amazon. Very professional looking. Almost like it came with the car.

I have the Passport 8500 X50 hard wired using the smart cord. That way I can mute it down below without touching the radar detector. I want to buy the blend mount but can't bring myself to pay almost 100 bucks.

Best location is in the middle of windshield below the rear view mirror.

Just curious. Where did you mount the antenna on the Raxiom GPS? It has been on my AM build list for about 6 months...

Clrd2lnd

I ran it through the glove box, passenger door sills, along side of the back seat then up on the carpeted area along the back window. Tucked wires in with a screwdriver and can't see it unless you are looking for it.

OK. That's how I was thinking of doing it. I read the instructions online and didn't agree with where they said to put it. Didn't buy one yet but was thinking about it...

I like the Raxiom unit. It is great to have NAV and I installed the camera which works while not only in reverse if you so desire. Only problem I had was the factory mislabeled one of the wires and I was not getting sound from the driver front speaker and no voice from nav. Called AM and they told me to switch wires which I did and it works flawlessly. If you do buy one ensure you try every selection before buttoning up the dash. It will save you some time.

This is the best install I've seen. Perfect location.
The detector is mounted with a blendmount.

That one is a relayer. The main unit still needs to mount in an area with an unobstructed view.

Correct. The main unit is on a blendmount right where you mounted yours.

Blend mount is the best.
Once I got it, took it to Car Toys and they did a very clean install.
Patched it into a hot line that turns off when the key is off.
Did the same with my Stingray.

+1 for Cartoys. Had the shop in mckinney install mine. I think I am going to ask for the blend mount for Christmas.

This^ I installed a Blendmount for my V1 on my mirror and tapped into the map light above it. Piece of cake.

Yes, I could have installed it but didn't want to mess with it since I also installed the mute button down by my knee under the dash. I got a good deal because I have had them do a few other things in the past.
