View Full Version : Friendly fun runs - Any 5.0's want to race?

Grandpa

I'm looking for some 5.0's to race my V. My V is so different from my 5.0 due to the MUCH heavier weight in the V and different powerband it's hard to tell where I stand with the 5.0's.

Anyone down for some fun runs? No bench racing, no smack talk, just some fun runs for giggles. Roll, dig, doesn't matter. I'm open to whatever works best for ya. I may need a few runs too cuz I'm still learning how to drive this thing. This "tap tap" method of driving is just really weird. Haha.

I thought it was funny too, which is why I changed it. ;)

And driving the auto in this thing is trickier than you might think. At least from a roll.

You have to put it over into Sport mode, paddle downshift to the gear you want, hit it, slap it into Tour mode, then back into Sport mode all in a quick second so it can't slap the rev limiter. If you just mash the pedal and let the car downshift itself, it will eventually eat the transmission.

Does the V have a pretty weak tranny or something?
I get that constant 2-3 gear downshifts can reduce transmission life, but i would expect more from a 60K car.

Actually no, several have made well over 800rw just fine with it. It's just the violent torque they make instantly shocks the drivetrain pretty hard. Cruising in sixth and dropping it to 2nd or 3rd is pretty damn violent. I think Will made over 1000 with it and it never really "broke" just started slipping.

Does it have to be a 5.0? Dark Pony has a new toy (getting put back together this week, hopefully) and I would like to see how it stands with the V. We need to set something up after he gets it finished.

What does bench raced mean

1. To discuss the possible quarter-mile elapsed time (E.T.) of a car based on a list of modifcations or horsepower estimate.
2. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications done to each engine.
3. To discuss "which is faster?" or "Which would win in a race?" between two cars, based on 1 and 2 above.

An example of the term used in a sentence:

Enough with the bench racing you stupid no0bs!

It might, you wouldn't have to work nights and weekends anymore to pay for all the repairs it takes to keep it on the road.

Steve, even on DRs, I wouldn't suggest that. It's spin city out there with the amount of rubber that gets left at the starting line and the first 200' of pit road. Being Auto will probably help you a good bit, maybe, maybe not. More people have been participating in the car show than running drags, which was NEVER the case in prior years. Plus this Friday night practice ends at 7:30, so you better get there REAL early.

When people running slicks and and 275 DRs are spinning almost the full 1/8 mi, it's very unnerving.

LOL, that bad huh? I'm just going to hang out with some friends. I know the surface out there is crap and have no intention to run.

As for ET's, I don't give two shits about what ET's this heavy slow turd can run. This is my daily, it just happens to be a lil fun to drive and can fit my kids in it when needed. If I can get in a few races with it against some of the Stangs around here that's just a fun bonus.

Since anyone can drive on the track and the show being open to anyone and all car types you tend to get that. Saw a few 1,000hp supras, 800hp evox, a few nice fox bodys and supercharged c7's. They do the parade laps around the track in 3-4 groups at a time, so try to be with a group of faster cars for the best experience. They despise passing, so getting stuck with a group of diesel trucks with a rollin coal stickers just sucks.

I think it will eventually bit the dust.

But, at the same time our temperatures have gone up drastically lately, so that may be contributing.

I'd rather spend my $20 on gas to the store for some Shiners, then back home and watch TV. :D
