Got pulled over for Speeding. Still don't think I was speeding, I was going with the flow of traffic on the expressway at what felt like 40ish. Seen the cop sitting on the side and didn't even bother to look down or attempt to slow down. I was pretty convinced I wasn't speeding, by the traffic flow and how I was pretty low in 5th gear chugging along.

So he hits his lights and gets behind me. I pull over. He ask for license and insurance and walks back to his car. Comes back with my stuff and with the ticket and says I pulled you over for speeding sign here hands me the paper and walks away. Look at the paper and it says 50 in a 35...wtf.

Not sure how much its going to be haven't called to find out yet, and Im still convinced I wasn't going that fast at all. Im wondering if it was possible where he was sitting to get the cars on the highway and not me? Any info on how to fight this?:favorites13:

My advice will be contingent on the municipality in which the ticket was received.

I was going with the flow of traffic on the expressway

So if everyone was going over the speed limit...the sports car gets pulled over. Nothing new to most members here.

That's it? I guess they're pretty friendly up near the red river. I need to move...

It's easy to not think your speeding in the flow of traffic. Most city driving where the limit is 35mph feels extremely too slow. I always take the same route home and when exiting GB the main street has a limit of 35mph and the speed that is comfortable is usually ten over that. Unless you checked your speedo and got confirmation of a radar printout... you were speeding. If you haven't had a ticket in awhile, you should be able to pay it without it going on your record. Be more careful.

3am. North on I35 just passe marietta. HE was under the overpass. Seen blue berries and cherry's and decided it would be just better to pull over. NO traffic anywhere. Prolly why I got off.

I got popped for 52 in a 30 one morning after leaving the donut shop (too bad I got kolaches). Then about 9 months later coasting down hill in 5th gear ass cop got me for 45 in a 40. Really....

BV which city and part of the city? I can probably give you the exact price, gotten tons of tickets in this area lol.

Was it one of the sheriff that have been chilling on the 190 access road recently?

$177.10, http://www.killeentexas.gov/pdf/kmc/fines_list_2012.pdf

Honestly I would just try to do defensive driving. It should be like $110 court fee, $25 class, and $12 driving record.

I've had 0 luck getting killeen to give me a motion of discovery before I talk to the prosecutor at the pretrial hearing, after pleading not guilty. And even when set up for an actual trial date, it was like pulling teeth to get the information I wanted. By now, you're probably looking at a trial date around November/December this year or sometime next year if you decide to fight it.

Almost not worth the hassle nowadays.

Almost not worth the hassle nowadays.

BS! Just an excuse for the insurance to jack up your rates. That's always worth the fight.

I said almost. Some cities and municipalities make you jump through some stupid hoops to try and fight it. I just did DD and deffered on my tickets and know not to get caught anymore. My insurance never went up. :)

Your average ticket cost doesn't seem to cost much more than they did 10 years ago. I think the main reason for it is that for say $400 you might be willing to go waste a day trying get a BS ticket dismissed but for 200 it's not worth the hassle. I was going to fight the last ticket I got in Richardson, cop said she paced me from the feeder on 75 doing 90 in a 60. Got really pissed when I question how she was doing 90 on the feeder at 9am on a weekday. She dropped it to 80mph so I just took defensive instead of jumping through all the hoops.

Meh. I think tickets are part of the hobby in my opinion. There is ways to minimize is by using common sense like the proper time and place but it's still going to happen. I'm good usually for one ticket a year.

I got a ticket about a year ago crossing the bridge coming from Rockwall. All I had to do was go online and pay a fraction of the cost and be on probation for 90 days and it drops off my record. Kind of like deferred judification Most traffic tickets in Dallas are handled that way now so that they don't tie up the courts.

I was going with the flow of traffic and my V1 started going ape shit. I turned and saw a cop leaning out of his window with a lazer. I noticed that he didn't shoot for the old piece of shit pickup with the truck nuts hanging from the bumper that was passing me at the time...Sport car discrimination.

Wish it was that way down here. Here it's court cost plus a special dismissal fee(both together conveniently equal cost of ticket) plus cost of defensive driving

It sucks that we have a new wannabe hard ass prosecutor too. She tried giving me 180 day probation for like 25 over, that got dropped to 90 very quickly

Get a Valentine1. Blendmount has a great mount for them.
Never just pay the ticket.
Save the defensive driving for when you really need it, as in the 2nd ticket you get this year.
Ask for deferred adjudication. You pay the fine, but if you don't get another ticket in the probation period it'll go away.

She could have thrown you in jail. Sounds like she was being nice to me.

She would've had to change the charge to reckless driving in order to do that. But if you want to get technical, you can get arrested for doing 1 mph over if the cop thinks it is reckless driving. So actually everybody in this thread could have been arrested.

A reckless driving charge blows! I got arrested and slapped with one in Snyder, TX. Judge was a total dick. Had to hire an atty. Did 12 months probation with a large fine and it was still on my record as "reckless conduct." Somehow they entered it that way instead of reckless driving. I didn't know it was showing on my record and it came up in a background search which prevented me from getting the position. Later I figured it out and had to hire another atty to "suppress" the information. It couldn't be removed entirely. Definitely not worth the hassles for the way I was driving.

Don't do deferred adjudication, take defensive driving online and you can practically take the class while watching TV. I did a stupid comedy class for 25 bucks or so, but ended up paying the state 150-200 bucks for allegedly doing 67 in a 55 on highway 380. State troopers stink, but I did get a discount on my insurance.

Yeah kid, I get it a cop can arrest you for doing anything blah blah blah. I have gotten tickets in the past too, 5mph here, 10mph there. You stated the prosecutor was being a hardass. Since she didn't push for reckless endangerment (which in most states that is 20mph or over), I think she let you off fairly easy.

Needless to say I have a colleague who doesn't intend to stop speed or getting parking tickets. Instead he has just hired a lawyer damn near full time to take care of his traffic/driving infractions. 15+ citations over the past three years and he has yet to have one hold up. It's cheaper for him to speed and hire a lawyer than to play itself/pay the fines.
