I've heard many testimonies about the need for an Oil Separator (catch can).
Installed it about 2 months ago. It's been 350 miles and I decided to check it out. I had 1/2" of oil in it. Shocking.
Absolutely worth the $$$.

Those really come in handy when running boosted applications

uhhhm? Spirited? Energetic? Then I put the DR's on and that's another story.
Guess it's good that I installed the JLT.

Is there a way to clean or replace the filter?

Didn't seem as much a filter to me, as its more of a turbulence barrier to separate oil from any air pressure/vacuum.

I'm not sure what you mean by "filter"? There is a filter in the line that goes to the "catch can". Don't believe that has to be replaced.
In the pic, the oil is in the cylinder that is removable; Simply unscrew and empty oil, then replace. No filter in it.

Well the filter I mean seems like maybe it can be clogged up or gunked up. Don't you think? I'm nonly assuming. It's a filter should be cleaned or replace at one point. I have one and have had it for about 2 1/2 years. Have not cleaned or replace. Just asking.

Shoot whoever does your oil changes, if the oil catch can gets gunked up with heavy sludge or deposts :)

I have the moroso catch can and love it. To me it's a nicer piece, has a solid mounting point to the car (JLT hangs freely) and it functions flawlessly. Oh and the draining technique is far better in my opinion..

The "filter" is merely a metal fabric in the line. It is very similar to the "filter" in an automatic trans cooler (although they have different jobs), it is not changeable. It's only job is to collect large amount of oil and drain back when the vehicle is turned off and cooled down. The vaporized oil that makes it passed the filter passes through the catch can where it separates...
I suppose if you really wanted to clean it then you simply remove it from the car and spray brake cleaner backwards through the line. But if you ever got one gunked up or clogged due to oil coking then you probably have bigger issues. lol

And now you see where all your oil goes over time! I am amazed Ford recommends 10k mile oil changes. These engines love to drink oil!

It's a must for high boost applications.

Yeah one of my first purchases after I saw what the inside of a stock intake looked like!!! The "filter" is like a chunk of steel wool but with thicker grade wool.. kinda like metal shavings size... All it does is provided a turbulence effect and allow surface area for oil to collect on and then drip into the cup. I have removed mine and blown brake cleaner thru the entire line and cleaned out the cup. But it's really not needed
