Sold my California Special wheels/tires today and now need new wheels/tires. (Car is sitting on jack stands).

Going tomorrow down to Hewitt to pay LMR a visit and going to pic up a set of sve drifts (18 by 10 all the way around) with nitto tires.

Which tire size do you guys suggest? I was thinking 275/40/18 or maybe 285/40/18.

You think it will stick out?

I really like the 18/10s but do you think I should I just go 19 by 9.5 instead?

I have the 19x9.5 and love them. But the 18s would be better for autocross which is where I am focusing. I have seen people with 295s on the 18s and they looked great.

285/40 is about 27" OD. That should be a good fit

Ended up getting 285s on the back and 275s in the front.

I agree. Would be able to do rotate on all 4 corners

After reading some threads on the subject and talking to a few guys, I thought 275s would be better in front. I like the staggered look, and also a few people mentioned the close proximity of the 285 tire in the front to some bolt or bar (maybe one side of the swaybar) and also it may cause trouble with certain suspension setups. Whether that is true or not, I am not sure but I saw a few pictures of the wheel/tire setup I got and I like it so I guess I will find out.

Hopefully you have plans on a decent drop, otherwise you need an FX4 sticker.

And also, I don't track my 5.0 and will most likely only autocross once a year, if that. So, I prefer look over performance at this point. I think I like the staggered tire setup of the 275 front/285 rear.

Hahaha. You are very, very right. Planning on lowering it in late December.

These new Sve Drifts and Nitto NT555s cost me $0. Haha. I flipped 3 sets of wheels and tires and made enough money off buying and selling to pay for this setup. Also, I got a killer deal on this setup from LMR. Wheels/tires/mount/balance/black lugs = Under $1400.

Exterior look aspects of a 275 vs a 285 is very minimal and will more than likely go unnoticed.

Not a bad choice but yeah you'll need a drop ASAP. You should autox it more. I would have got 285s all the way around. That way you can at least rotate. It's not like you're putting DRs on the rear or anything. At least that way you have a balanced set up.

can go wrong with free, i run the drifts as well in 19's with 275's square setup. It wasnt free, but i got a good deal.

Yeah, I should have went with 285s all around I suppose. But, I initially was going to go with 275s all the way around; so, at least I got a little more rubber out back. And also, putting 285s all the way around would have cost me another $75 and I really, really wanted to keep my wheel/tire setup under $1400.

I know one thing though - my drifts and nittos will perform a hell of a lot better than the 235 stockers that initially came on my 5.0. Haha

Thanks for all the help, guys.

What about the TPMS?

I'm trying to figure out how to get that done and not have to buy a new $200 set.

Ok thanks....but how do I get them to LMR to put in a set of wheels/tires?

Next March I'm getting SVE Drifts in 18x9 and 18x10. :)

REALLY happy to know I can get them for $60!!!

I skimped on TMPS. I am used to checking my tire pressure very frequently though. Old habit. Headed to pick up my wheels. I'll post pics when I get them on.

I love the wheels and tires but not the look of the car right now. It desparately needs to be lowered. LIKE BAD! I just need to figure out which lowered setup will enable the wheels/285 tires to turn fully without rubbing.

Also, don't mind my wife........ lol

sportlines, H&R SS or coilovers.

Car needs to come down quite a bit to loose that wheel gap.
Looks good.

BMRs are a good choice, as well as the sportlines.

Will a 1.5" drop fix that?

That's the drop of the springs I'm looking at.

Buy the H&R Race springs BV600 is selling and be a baller like me.

Haha. I might, but I am thinking the Steeda Ultralights. Still have month to decide.

How is the ride quality with the HR race springs?

Edit: Just read your review of them on BV600 for sale page. I think they will be too rough with the stock shocks/struts. I don't plan on changing shocks/struts right now. Thanks though!

Any lower spring will be a beating on stock shocks/struts.

donutninja
11-14-2013, 01:27 AM
yeah, it's a good idea to change the shocks/struts if you go lower. The stock ones are going to wear out pretty quickly and might give other issues depending on how low you go.

Just one day of driving and I can tell a huge improvement on handling! Those 285s are a hell of a lot better than the stock 235s!

Also, my car may have to look like shit for another two months now. I have decided to just wait another month and do shocks/struts/springs/panhard instead of just springs/panhard.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions!

Just pulled the trigger on some brand new Steeda Ultralites.

Edit: Canceled the Steeda, and went with a steal of a deal on the SR lowering spring ($55 BNIB).
