meh, im looking at 1500sqft condos for about 225k in a NICE area in the bay area. Really not THAT bad. My dad's 4000 sqft house on a double lot on the end of a cul de sac that was built in 2007 was about 450k

Man thats high. I lived in Chico CA for 2 years and my 1300sf apt was 1,900 bucks a month. It didnt take long for me to get my ass back to Texas. :)
