Couple other forums have little chat boxes at the top (or bottom) of the forum home page/index page where you can just shoot the bull without creating a thread.

It would kill the forum. This new forum needs new threads/posts so if they are lost to the chat box, this forum will not grow. ;)

Yeah I'm a member of clubwrx and they have one. It's cool. You can just "hang out" and then if you need something you start a thread.

It's more of a wasting time when you're bored, texting over the computer type of format.

Yeah, I've got mixed feelings on this. I think that it will kill alot of potential threads .. while on the other hand it will provide quick chats.
