Looks bad ass... if you want the rear lower, put the end of the pigtails at the very back of the control arm... looking from the back of the car the end of the pigtail should be at 6 oclock. looks like the one in the install is at 3...

Love the stance now, the wheels are classic time capsules of what was cool 30 years ago... Id rock it exactly as it sits, but put tailpipes on it man.... dumps are gonna annoy the shit out of you.:insane:

Don't forget you'll need a new trans crossmember when you put duals under it! Or you might have gotten lucky and someone swapped it in already when it got the T5.

You need the 'double hump' version so you can run two pipes.

downtime!
04-09-2013, 11:44 PM
The dash is useless to mount to, just falls apart. In my '85, I mounted it to the column, sort of in front of the stock tach. It was pretty common back in the day, you just use a big ass hose clamp to hold it on.

yep, had a friend with a 7500 rpm 85 GT (he still has it), with a 3.5 inch tach mounted on the column... it didnt look horrible. I just use the stock one, it works pretty damn good with the tach signal off my msd.

04-10-2013, 01:18 PM
Dale, if the stock tach is getting buggy, are any of the other gauges acting funny too? If so, the IVR is probably the culprit. I also had an issue where the tach quit working but everything else was fine, turned out to be the lead wire (seems like it was green) that feeds the tach from the ignition circuit under the hood. Replaced that wire and it worked fine after that.

yes this lead wire is the one that needs to go directly to the output on the MSD to have a REAL accurate stock tach.

My dad has one in his Road Runner and it's cool only because his car didnt come with a tach from the factory.

Are you mounting it on the a pillar or the steering column?

Florida 5.0 has a bad ass setup with replacing all our stock gauges with Autometers... if that is something you want to think about later on.

is there much difference in shorties vs longtubes for NA purposes. because it maybe easier to just get shorties although i'd have to find a new mid pipe as well.
on the flip side. another steering shaft would help with steering response im sure. ugh. decisions.

Yes. With the longtubes you will have more low-end torque, pick up a few mph on the top, plus they will sound awesome. Shorties you won't pick up the low end torque with and maybe pick up 5-10hp.

Hey man, sometimes you just need to dimple the header to make clearance for steering and chassis parts. Headers are ALWAYS a pain in the ass, this is just the first thing you will learn to hate about them. :naughty:

Danny is right, its not that uncommon on a Fox. If you dimple them, use the round side of a ball peen hammer. Place it where you want the dimple and use a regular hammer to hit the flat side of the ball peen hammer. Easier to control where you hit doing it that way.

go ahead and say im wrong. but for now. this car is just a cruiser.

Shorties are fine, I made over 700 rw with em and the vert will be near the same. The Coyote swap comment was why I hung myself.

oh i see. its been one of my goals for a while. while it may end up costing around 12-16k i dont really care. it would be amazing to have that kind of car.

If you do most of the work yourself, you can keep the cost way down. Pull out motor and trans from a wrecked car, use the FRPP controller pack, factor in the required custom driveshaft, and you're looking at maybe $6000 in parts depending on what you pay for the motor/trans (I've seen a few go for $3000 lately). The canned tune with the controller pack would net a pretty driveable 400 hp. That would be a fun Fox!

Headers are in, things are shaping up. I have one question though. How long would it take to pull the motor and reseal her. And put it back in.

And put it back in.If you just do the "outside" gaskets (valve covers, oil pan, front cover, etc) not too long. The motor doesn't even need to come all the way out for those, just high enough to get the oil pan off. Since you'll be having a beer or two, and will get mad at the car at least twice, figure a couple of hours total work time, plus an hour to chill in between thrown wrenches. LOL!

Drop the tranny and its right there. I've had just about every gasket leak oil that can possibly leak oil on my fox. Got all fixed but one and now I just don't care. It doesn't leak enough to matter, when I finally build a new motor for the car my oil leak problems will be gone.

part of the leaking problem was the valve covers. Replaced them with Edelbrock covers I found at the swap meet for 20 bucks. also put some ford racing wires in and replaced all my plugs as well. I'll tackle the rear main seal next weekend.

I know it doesn't look as good, but the stock breather on these cars is hard to beat in terms of efficiency and not sucking up hot under hood air. Put a K&N filter in it and make sure the plastic end pieces that go to the fenders are in good shape. Put a plug over the openings on the bottom of each side where the heat risers went, and remove the vacuum tube from the flap on each side and then take the flap out completely on each side and you're good to go.
