so, i bought the beefcake special dark stars so i have 15x10 in back and 17x4 up front. i bought them because of the great deal and i wanted to run slicks on back and skinnies up front for the track only.

but now im thinking of throwing some drag radials and running the rear 15s full time or semi full time. sell the fronts and get a pair of MT drag radials or something.

i know the slicks are best for a manual but would the DRs keep it from running into the 10s or cause too much damage?

i feel id get more of my money's worth by running them semi full time rather than once or twice a year on the track.

what do you think?

DR's. I'd run the MT DR's or BFG DR personally. Slicks are cool and all, but you can't run them on the street too. What happens when the Mexican flag needs to fly?:D

this is the exact reason im thinking about going with a DR i can keep on there for the most part. :driver:

I'd go with the M/T DR's as well, I'll be doing a simliar setup but holding out to try and find some used RT-S' at a decent price.

i wanted some RT-S but for a whole set of dark stars for like $540...couldnt pass that up. i read they are a bitch to put on because of the oblong washers so i might invest in some McGard hardware. i'll see how the stock hardware hold up for now.

i've read that 275/60-15 is the way to go...anyone disagree?

This! I love those wheels!

And yes, 275/60/15 is the way to go.

I've always liked the race look, and they save quite a bit of weight. Maybe one day I'll end up with some nice 20's too but at this point they all look too similar, hard to stand out without breaking the bank.

I ran 12.0x's with a tune on the 275/60's. It's a good choice if you're not making big power. I run the MT 295/55-15's now, even in Mexico, these suckers hook up.

And the biggest issue to running the skinnies up front full time, is front end plowing. Currently, the tallest radial you can get for the 17's is only 25.7" tall. I'm only using the Pro Kit springs and with the skinnies on, the front end drags over every little bump in the road. If you're lower than that, it will scrape everywhere.

I did find some M&H front runners that are 28" tall, but they aren't radial and the don't seem to have a high enough weight rating to run on a full size car. Still waiting to hear back from the company.

what do you consider big power? i should be around 650 to the ground.

i wasnt planning on running the skinnies full time, just to the track cuz it makes me nervous on the road.

I make that power level now. There are plenty of cars going very fast on 275's with a lot more power, but they do it for a living. The bigger the tire, the easier the launch is to get right for us amateurs! The 295's are absolutely amazing on mine, I would highly recommend them.

amateur is right, i'll look into the 295s as well.

i currently run a 315-35/20 NT05 and i got them to break loose in 4th gear once boost hit...im hoping for a little more traction than that.

Is the NT05 a DR? Sorry, the only Nittos I've run are 555's on the street. I've had good luck on the MT's but they sure are pricey in a 19"!

You get any times outta that thing yet?Not yet. Taking it back to HPP next weekend for a new clutch (clutch, line upgrade and new slave cylinder), a few other goodies and working on the tune again. It still hunts when idling, just trying to smooth that out some more. Looking to make a trip to Denton when we get it right.

lol, i had some Hankook V12s on the stock 19s but i switched them when i put the paxton on...i cant imagine running with those at all.

i meant a sleeper with mine, it looks completely stock from the outside with a hint of intercooler in the front which im looking to cover as best i can with a retro upper and lower grill. i wont lie if asked what i have, but that "wtf" look is hilarious.

Damn Bryan!! That looks sick!!Thanks man! It does look pretty good. I was torn on getting the Dark Stars, but with the Beefcake special on the fronts, and the deal I got on the backs from AM's Ebay store, I have right at $1000 in the whole set. Can't argue with that, even though I really want the Welds. Maybe next year after the auto swap.

It's definitely fun to surprise the enemy!

I put the 15x10 dark stars on mine w/295-55-15 ET Streets? The car does really good. I run skinnies on the front at the track.
So far my best is a 7.11 w a1.58 60'. I think it can do better.
I hope it can anyway.
